Friend one: Heym, is she really as beautiful as you said?

Lead singer: Uh huh

Friend two: Are you gonna be seeing her over at her place tonight?

Lead: Uh uh

I'm so lonely I wish I was dead
There is nothing but heartbreak ahead
Yes, I lost my true love all because of a sign that said:

"One Way"
The sign said "One Way"

I revved up my cycle and I cruised t'wards the house where she lives
(Lives, lives)
As I turned up the street a police person shouted "What gives?"
(She up and flashed her badge and said "What gives?")
"You can't go that way, buddy," she said
And she pointed up over my head
To a sign on a post on my baby's street that said:

"One Way" (One way)
The sign said "One Way"

My heart skipped a beat when she said I could see her tonight
(Tonight, tonight)
But she lives to the left and the arrow points to the right
(The arrow on the sign is pointing right)
Oh why must they keep us apart?
Our love's through before it could start
And I feel like that sign with the arrow piercing my heart

"One Way" (one way)
The sign said "One Way"

(spoken)

Lead: But wait! What's that sound? Hey, could I be about to recieve a visit from my guiding angel?

Guiding Angel: Hi, I'm your guiding angel.

Lead: How about that?

Angel: I've got an idea to lay on you. Listen, why don't you ride your bike around the block and come in from the other end of the street then you'll go past her house from the right way?

Lead: Hey what a great idea! Gee, thanks a lot!

Angel: Oh it was nothing. Really!

(Above conversation from the TV version):

Lead: But wait! What's that sound? Hey, could I be about to recieve a visit from my guiding angel?

Guiding Angel: Hi. I'm your guiding angel.

Lead: How about that? And I see you're carrying a road map.

Guiding Angel: Yeah. What seems to be the problem?

Lead: Well, I can't get to my baby's house here because this street is one way, the other way.

Guiding Angel: Ooh! Well, have you considered going around this way?

Lead: Hey! What a great idea! Gee, thanks a lot.

Guiding Angel: It was nothing. Really!

I rode around the block to her doorway with wings on my wheels
(Wheels, wheels)
I've waited so long for a kiss, now I know how it feels
(She kissed him, now he knows just how it feels)
And I shout to the heavens above
Twelve short words that I'm extra proud of
"The arrow on that sign will not keep me away from my love!"

One Way (One way)
The sign said "One Way" (The sign said "One Way")
The sign said "One Way" (The sign said "One Way")

One way, one way, one way ....
