The Updike Family
Heraldry
Welcome one and all, to one of the oldest family name in North America. The Updikes came from Holland in the early 1600
to help settle America. What is now Long Island, New York was once the home of many brave and peaceful Dutch men and women. Our history has been traced back to Holland. The oldest date thus far is 1355.
We have a long and amazing history in this new land. Most families only have the honor of having one Coat of Arms, if any. We have two that have been historically recorded. It is also worthy to note and my observation, that many members of the Updike family are some of the most individualistic persons on Earth.

This appears to be the Oldest Crest dating from 1355.

The second and more commonly know and seen is the one displayed below.
The family Motto is associated with this crest.
"Truth is Best."
Also the crest is displayed with a Swam with a golden ring in it's beak as part of the head dress, not show here.

Coats of Arms were given to individuals, and their direct family. Only if they were Knights, Royalty, and important members of society and government officals.
This is why we can have two different Crest,at some point in time two different individuals bearing the Op Den dyck , or Opdyck (Updike) name where honored with the standards displayed above.

In honor of the 2nd Millennium AD or the 7th Millennium as to Bibical time. I have created a  Millennial  Family Crest which have combined elements from both in celebration
for all those Updikes preparing to to pass into the 21st. Century.
