HISTORY OF THE INTREPID

The Intrepid's history is a short one. Named the same as an entire successful class of science vessels in Starfleet, the Intrepid was launched as a repeated attempt at a similar mission to that of Voyager; short term exploration. The Intrepid's name is taken from the same class of vessel, as a testiment both to the ship type and to the people who introduced the first in a revolutionary new line in Starfleet Vessels.

Although the Proteus class is generally a covert operations and incursion ship, the Intrepid is modified for more civilian and exploration exploits. It features more condensed crew quarters, and is more advanced in the fields of sensors and communications. It features a long range sonar detection system (S.D.S.) that improves the distance and power of relevant long-range scans. Although the tactical use of the ship is still obvious, it is doubtful that it will ever witness combat as a military vessel.
