Misty's new friends are each very distinct from one another, but they all share one thing in common -- they are children of divorce. Misty dubs them Orphans with Parents, and in this, the first book, she tells the story of her life so far to the other girls, finding that despite their very different personalities, they have a lot in common. When Misty's parents divorced, they had no idea the effect the split would have on their only daughter. Misty struggled through her emotions, losing her friends and herself in the process. She ultimately acts out in the only way she knows how to get her parents to see what using her as the weapon in their battle has done to her.
