Little of Lieutenant James' background is known.  Through his actions within the fleet, he seems to catch Diana's attention and becomes her "right hand man".  He eventually begins to receive important assignments from Diana concerning the Resistance, and he is the officer sent in to eliminate the computer expert hacking into the Visitor computer system.  Diana takes James as her lover, and involves him in all aspects of her plots against the Resistance and against Philip.  When the Leader arrives to announce peace between the two planets, Diana once again plots against the Armistice and with James' help, attempts to discredit the Resistance and assassinate the Leader.  Diana's plot is discovered and James is arrested.
