Author shares lighthouse life
Vivian DeRusha Quantz, daughter of a Lighthouse Keeper, was born in Ashland, Wisconsin, in April of 1929, while her father served at Devil's Island. She grew up in Michigan's Upper Peninsula where her father served at various lighthouses.
During WWII she lived in Richmond, Virginia, where she and her brother's wife waited for him to return safely from the war, by working in a defense plant. After the war Vivian returned to the Upper Peninsula.
After she and her husband Howard, married and their five daughters were born, they trained as missionaries and served a short time in Colombia, S.A. Returning to the States, and settling in Florida, Vivian became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked in a local hospital until an unfortunate accident ended her nursing career in 1987.
Since always having a passion for writing, Vivian decided the time was right and enrolled at the Institute of Children's Literature to prepare to follow her dream. She now presents us with her first book, based on events and memories of her childhood.
Vivian and Howard now reside in Skandia, Michigan, and visit their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in Florida and Ohio.
