MISCELLANY

MEMORY FLASHES:

Trying to find a motel on Friday. Sleeping in an MG on Friday night in the Denny's parking lot. Being so stoned on hash I didn't care. Finding a little motel in Seaside on Saturday morning. Lunch at KFC in Pacific Grove. Being a little afraid walking to the fairgrounds alone Saturday night. Hearing Janis Joplin for the first time. Wild. Hearing Jimi Hendrix for the first time. Wild. The Who. Wild. Getting bored listening to Ravi Shankar. Johnny Rivers almost getting laughed off the stage. The moog synthesizer. Walking Sue home to Carmel Highlands, then hitchhiking back to Monterey. Meeting Sgt. Pepper. Going to Carmel. Getting called names by storekeepers. Sleeping on the ground inside the fairgrounds Sunday night even though we had a motel room. Why???? Ousley's Monterey Purple. All night jam session Sunday night, hard to get to sleep. Waking up Monday morning all cold and damp. Going to Asilomar & sleeping the afternoon away. Wishing I never had to go home. Going home anyway.

Does anyone else remember Harry (Night Court) Anderson selling the Free Press on the Sunset Strip in the summer of '67?

COMMENTARY CONTINUED:

After the Friday night performance we made our way out of the grounds and back to the car which we had left in the parking lot of Denny's on Fremont Street. At a wooded lot next door a bunch of people were setting up camp. We milled around for a little while meeting people and having a good time and the number of campers steadily grew. The first thing we knew it was a regular little village. A couple of guys from Indiana began to play Bluegrass on guitar and mandolin and drew quite a little crowd. Everyone was sharing whatever they had. I can't tell you how many offers of food we turned down. Finally, and I couldn't tell you what time it was, we decided we had to get some sleep. So we put down the top of the MG, leaned the seats forward, and planted our butts in the well behind the seats. With our backs leaning against the seat backs and our legs hanging out over the trunk, we went to sleep.
