Preamble: We, the members of Ziv BBG #1102 establish the
chapter for the purpose of the spiritual, mental, and physical development
of Jewish youth; the inclination of a love and understanding of our
cultural heritage; the stimulation of resposibility as good citizens
in the community in which we live as well as in the Jewish community;
and the encouragement for motivating the unity of all people.
Article II - Commission: The provision of the Constitution and
by-laws of the B'nai B'rith Youth Commission are hereby made a part thereof.
Whenever there is any conflict between the before mentioned constitution in
addition to any by-laws included as they now read or may later be amended,
such provisions of this constitution and by-laws of the B'nai B'rith Youth
Commission shall be supreme in every case.
Article III - Object: Ziv BBG #1102 of the KIO Region is
dedicated to the fulfillment of the goals set forth by the International
Order of the B'nai B'rith Girls through the coordination of activities and
the promotion of unification among all the B'nai B'rith Girls and social
interaction between Jewish youth included development of relationships as
well as leadership skills.
Section 1 Eligibility - Every Jewish girl in high school, of
high school age, or in the April of her eighth grade year is eligible for
membership of Ziv BBG #1102. Furthermore, she must be a resident of the
central Ohio area within the boundaries of the KIO Region.
Section 2 Non-Resident Membership - An active member of Ziv BBG
may, upon removal from our residential boundaries to a city where there is
no B'nai B'rith Girls chapter, retain her membership in Ziv BBG by paying
half of the annual dues per membership year.
Section 3 Suspension - Possible suspension of a chapter member
will be dealt with on a one-on-one basis by the Chapter N'siah, advisors,
city director, and/or regional director if incident should arise.
Section 4 Reinstatement - Reinstatement of a chapter member
will be dealt with by the same procedures outlined in
Article IV, Section 3.
Section 5 Resignment - A member in good standing may resign from
the chapter by tendering such a resignation in writing. The resignation
shall be read at the next regular meeting of the chapter. Furthermore, there
may be no dissentions towards a member's resignation because it is a declaration
rather than a motion.
Section 6 Registration - In order to gain membership to Ziv BBG
along with the B'nai B'rith Youth Organization, annual dues must be paid.
The amount and other specifics are to be outlined in Article V.
Section 1 - The fee for new members shall be $55.00, and for
any member re-registering shall be $50.00; both of which are to be paid the
the B'nai B'rith Youth Organization. This fee will not change unless dictated
by the KIO Region.
Section 2 - Re-registration will occur with the Judaism Institute
applications. The membership year will end in June except for graduating seniors,
who may participate until August.
Section 1 Regular Meetings - Regular meetings may be held
on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 at the Leo Yassenoff Jewish Community Center of
Columbus unless otherwise specified by the chapter N'siah and/or city director.
Section 2 Special Meetings - Special meetings may be called by the N'siah
at any time or shall be called at the request of six (6) members in good standing.
In addition, the chapter S'ganit is encouraged to call executive board meeetings
once a month.
Section 3 Quorum - For elections or new business to proceed, more than
one-half of the membership of the total chapter must be present for voting to take
place. Exceptions to this are to be specified by the chapter N'siah.
1. Presides over and calls order to all meetings, including regular
meetings, special meetings and elections.
2. Helps and guides members in planning programs and any problems they
may encounter.
3. Represents and is the spokeswoman for the chapter at all city meetings,
regional meetings, adult board committee meetings, conventions, etc.
4. Is in charge of enforcing the Robert's Rules of Order when appropriate,
and appoints a Mashgicha if she sees fit.
5. Answers any questions that may arise due to parliamentary procedure and
BBYO policy.
6. Consults Madricha and advisor on issues of BBYO policy.
7. Conducts installations/destallations.
8. Oversees application for chapter awards.
9. Receives all messages and announces them at meetings.
10. Calls corresponding secretary with weekly messages.
11. Creates agendas for meetings.
12. Controls all debates that may occur during a meeting.
13. Oversees all chapter officers and ensures that their dutes are
being performed satisfactorily.
14. Oversees all chapter functions and activities.
15. Counts secret ballots with the aid of the advisor and announces
the results unless otherwise specified.
16. Ensures that International Rules of Conduct are not broken.
17. Encourages attendance at programs at all levels, especially Roundtables.
18. Corresponds with her Regional Counterpart.
19. Serves as role model to the chapter.
1. Takes the duties of N'siah in her absence.
2. In charge of the general board which would involve assigning the programming
folds or assigning programming committee heads if she sees fit.
3. Oversees all programs except Jewish Heritage, Social Action, and
Community Service*.
4. Runs executive board meetings.
5. Maintains chapter calender.
6. Writes up clearance and evaluation forms for programs.
7. Ensures programming under International Program Thrusts.
8. Aids the president in her duties in any way possible.
9. Encourages attendance at programs at all levels.
10. Corresponds with her Regional Counterpart.
11. Serves as role model to the chapter.
*May plan programs in these folds, but in that case the Sh'licha would oversee them.
C. MORAH(Vice-President in charge of Membership; MIT-Mom)
1. Oversees all chapter recruitment, retention, and re-education of members.
2. Conducts all Member-In-Training (MIT) education, chapter education, and parent
education if necessary.
3. Compiles a MIT book to be distributed to all MITs and any chapter member who
needs it.
4. Corresponds with prospective members and invites them to chapter programs
and meetings.
5. Works with chapter treasurer to update membership lists for the regional
office (this shall be expanded in Duty #3 under the office of Gizbarit).
6. Conducts Inductions.
7. Is knowledgeable and aware of BBYO policy.
8. Encourages attendance at LTI Weekend and CLTC.
9. Corresponds with her Regional Counterpart.
10. Serves as role model to the chapter.
D. SH'LICHA(Jewish Heritage, Social Action, and Community Service Vice President)
1. Oversees all Jewish Heritage, Social Action, and Community Service programming.
2. Sees that services are written for all necessary functions.
3. Is Chairwoman of Jewish Heritage, Social Action, and Community Service folds when
chairs not appointed.
4. Oversees planning of BBG Shabbat annually.
5. Ensures programming under applicable International Program Thrusts.
6. Encourages attendance at JI and Kallah.
7. Encourages Jewish spirit and infuses Judaism into the chapter.
8. Corresponds with her Regional Counterpart.
9. Serves as role model to the chapter.
1. Responsible for chapter fundraising and keeping the treasury healthy.
2. Keeps records of all incoming and outgoing money. This includes keeping track
of IOUs as well as balancing the checkbook.
3. Keeps records of all membership dues.
4. Oversees chapter dues/tzedakah collection.
5. Prepares International Service Funds (I$F) and Regional Service Funds (R$F) and
sees that the minimum requirements are met.
6. Corresponds with her Regional Counterpart.
7. Serves as role model to the chapter.
1. Takes minutes at all meetings. This information should include date of
meeting, what kind of meeting, attendance, and all business discussed (motions and any
decisions made).
2. Is prepared to present the minutes to the chapter at any given time.
3. Gives copies of the minutes to the Chapter N'siah.
4. May do creative minutes for the sake of the chapter and any contests.
5. Keep extra copies of minutes at every meeting in case of a dispute.
6. Compiles agendas from the N'siah.
7. Keeps records of all minutes to pass down to each secretary. These
records shall be open to any chapter member or executive board member to borrow.
8. Corresponds with her Regional Counterpart.
9. Serves as role model to the chapter.
1. Contacts every chapter member and prospective member weekly with messages
(information to be gotten from the N'siah).
2. Compiles and updates the chapter roster regularly.
3. Gets calender from S'ganit if necessary for messages.
4. Corresponds with her Regional Counterpart.
5. Serves as role model to the chapter.
1. Advises the N'siah and chapter in general when needed.
2. Acts as Mashgicha unless one is appointed by the N'siah (see N'siah Duty #4).
3. Encourages attendance at programs at all levels.
4. Serves as role model to the chapter.
a. The N'siah, after consultation with the advisors and/or city
director, may ask for the resignation of any officer who is not fulfilling her duties.
b. In the event that a vacancy occurs in any office other than N'siah,
an election, with the approval of the N'siah and advisors, may be held to
elect a qualified person to coplete the term.
c. In the event of the absence of resignation of the N'siah, the
S'ganit shall assume the dutes of the N'siah. In the event of the absence
of both the N'siah and the S'ganit, the Morah shall assume the duties of the
N'siah and the power shall be continued down the board.
Section 1 Executive Committee - This committee shall consist
of all elected officers of the chapter. The function of the Executive Board
is to act as the "steering committee" of the chapter.
Section 2 N'siah Appointed Committees -
a. Shomerit Habrit (Prayerwoman) recites a poem, prayer, or quote
at the beginning and at the end of each meeting.
b. Safranit (Scrapbook Editor) keeps detailed records of all programs
including flyers, pictures, and what happened at each program to be submitted
for any program awards or for scrapbook awards.
c. Orechet (Newspaperwoman) compiles a chapter newspaper and may submit
articles concerning the chapter to the City, Regional, or Internaional publications.
d. Mashgicha (Seargent at Arms) maintains order at all meetings and is in
charge at the door. This is the Madricha unless someone else is appointed in her place.
e. Web Chairwoman - updates and maintains Ziv web page.
f. Sunshine Haha (Spirit Chairwoman) encourages spirit and sisterhood
within the chapter.
All of these committee heads may or may not be appointed by the N'siah as she sees fit.
Section 3 Fold Committees - Committees may be appointed by the S'ganit
for the folds of Recreation, Creativity, and Sisterhood. Committees may be appointed
by the Sh'licha for the folds of Community Service, Jewish Heritage, and Social Action.
Section 4 Other Officer Committees - Any officer may appoint a committee to
assist with her office (a calling committee for the Mazkirah, for example) with the
consent of the N'siah.
Section 5 Special Committees - Special committees shall be appointed for
such purpose and at such time as the chapter may order. Upon completion of its business,
the committee shall be automatically discharged.
Section 1 Allocation of Funds - The allocation of funds shall be decided
upon by Ziv. However, no such funds are to be used for any other purpose until the
chapter has fulfilled its I$F and R$F commitments.
Section 2 Shabbat - No fundraising shall be done on Shabbat
or any other inappropriate holiday.
Article X - Awards: The chapter shall issue the following awards
annually. The winner of each of these awards must be a member in good standing
of Ziv BBG #1102.
Section 1 MIT of the Year - This award is to be voted upon by the
chapter advisor(s), Morah and N'siah. It shall be awarded to one outstanding new
member of the past year who has completed the appropriate training and has contributed
greatly to the chapter during her first year in Ziv.
Section 2 Ziv Blossom Award - This award is to be given by the chapter's
advisor(s). This person must have been in the chapter at least three years and must
have been someone who has accomplished and done more for the chapter in the past year
than any other person.
Section 3 Tennenbaum Award - This award is to be given to a member that
has increased sisterhood and unity during her time in Ziv BBG and is to be given by
the chapter's advisor(s).
Article XI - Life Memberships: Life memberships are offered to all
graduating seniors who at the time of their giving must have been a member in good
standing for at least two years.
Article XII - Amendments: The constitution and the by-laws may be
amended at any time by the chapter. However, any amendments must pass as vote of
two-thirds of the total constituents of the chapter.
Article XIII - Additions: Ziv BBG #1102 may make additions to the
Uniform Constitution and By-Laws by a two-thirds vote of the members present at a
regular meeting. No such additions shall in any way conflict with any provision
of the Uniform Constitution or By-Laws.
THIS CONSTITUTION SHALL BE REVIEWED AND/OR REVISED WHEN SEEN FIT BY
THE N'SIAH OF ZIV BBG #1102 AND/OR CHAPTER MEMBERS.
