  • 10 December 2004

My apologies to all visitors for the long delay in adding something new; the present updating is rather extensive, I hope it will be worth the wait.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

    • Non-standard patterns : new samples have been added in all four parts of this gallery.

    • Sizes, Shapes and Colours : in part 2 the Jumbo Decks section has been refurbished with better pictures, one of which features a new specimen; in part 3 there are pictures of a Swiss Piquet deck with suits in four colours, and the rather peculiar Hell Playing Cards from Singapore.

    • the tarots of Ferrara : an extensive review in four pages of the oldest tarot pattern, with many samples from the four most important specimens.

    • the Minchiate : the page has been revised, and the picture of the earliest known Minchiate specimen is on display.

    • the Hofjagdspiel : one of the most famous German hunting decks, hand-painted by a distinguished 15th century artist.

    • Japanese Matching Cards : samples from a new Iroha set have ben added in part 2.

    • Italy : a fancy edition called Charta has been added in part 5.

    • Spain : the Spanish gallery has been enlarged and now consists of five parts; samples of some historical decks are now on display in part 1.

    • Germany : the gallery has kept growing and now comprises four parts; several new pictures have been added throughout the section.

    • Switzerland : the gallery has been divided into two parts, with many new pictures added.

    • Sweden : a new gallery.

    • Portugal : another new gallery, with pictures of the obsolete Portuguese pattern, as well as the modern one.

    • China : the historical notes about Chinese cards have been revised and lengthened.

    • Souh-eastern Asia : a Malaysian Mah Jong deck and a Singaporean 4-colour cards deck are on display.

    • Japan : the cartoon Hanafuda page features a new edition, and has been split into two parts, for an easier loading; also the thin cards page features two new editions.
