Hi! Welcome to the Mireles Family Web site. I am Anastacio R. Mireles. I was born, raised, and live in San Antonio, Texas. This site is dedicated to my family and our surname of Mireles. Please come visit and meet my family. But first, a brief history of our surname...
The Mireles surname is of Catalan language origin and was first used in the villa de Miralles in Lerida, Spain. In 1490, Don Martin Miralles asked the Catholic kings for permission to change Miralles to Mireles in view of the fact that Mireles signifies "Ciudad de los Espejos (City of Mirrors)" in the Catalan language. On January 12, 1491, he was granted permission to use the name Mireles and has since then been used by his descendants.
The Mireles family proved their nobility in service to San Juan de Jerusalen in 1632, and King Carlos III in 1795. In 1773, a family branch arrived in Matamoros, Tamaulipas in the person of Caballero Don Asuncion Refugio de Mireles, counselor and captain in service of the King.
Don Asuncion had two sons, Don Saturnino and Don Blas. Descendants of Don Blas were Don Refugio Mireles who married Dona San Juana Mata de Mireles. Their son, Don Eustacio Mireles married Dona Florinda C. de Mireles of San Antonio, Texas. Their children were Don Eustacio, Don Pilar, Don Servando C. de Mireles, and Dona Maria de la Piedad de Mireles, all of San Antonio, Texas.
