The Two Nameless Thugs finally decided to ride toward Aqua-something, and turned to face the sweatdropping Duo. TNT 2: Well, he's served his purpose. No real reason to keep him around…. The nameless thug drew his sword and skulked over to Duo. TNT 3: Ano… didn't Heero say he wanted the boy taken alive? TNT 2: Well Heero isn't here, now is he? The nameless thug raised his sword to kill Duo. Suddenly an arrow embedded itself in his back. The thug dropped to the ground gurgling on his own blood. (Hey.. I'm not nice to those who aren't nice to my bishounen!!) Duo stared down at the dead man and grinned. He looked wildly about for his savior. Duo: HIE- HEERO?! Duo stared openmouthed at Heero. Heero threw down the crossbow and walked over to Duo and crouched down in front of him. Heero: Hn. I don't tolerate insubordination. Duo nodded dimly. His throat was mysteriously dry, and for once he couldn't think of a word to say to the sheriff with the cobalt eyes. Duo: Thank you… Heero: Hn. Heero pulled a small knife out of his boots and sliced through Duo's bonds. Abruptly, Heero's eyes flew open and he cried out. He tumbled down into Duo's outstretched arms. Duo: Heero! There was an arrow lodged in his left shoulder. Duo looked around and saw that this time it was Hiei who held a crossbow. Hiei: Run baka! Duo: H-Heero? Heero: Go. Duo gazed down into the face of the sheriff, the man he'd thought was his enemy. On impulse Duo leaned down and kissed him quickly on the lips before standing up. Duo looked to his left in time to see the Third Nameless Thug aiming Heero's discarded crossbow at Hiei. Duo: NOOOO! Duo rushed at the thug and pushed him as he shot. The shot went wide of it's original target, but it found a secondary target. As Duo and Hiei watched helpless the arrow struck Kurama. Hiei: KURAMA! Duo ran over to the fallen fox while Hiei charged the thug, his sword drawn. Hiei quickly severed the thug's head and rushed back to where Duo knelt cradling Kurama's fox form. Hiei turned at the sound of hoof-beats to see Heero riding away, arrow still embedded in his shoulder. Hiei grabbed his sword an turned, but Duo put his arm on Hiei's shoulder and stopped him. Duo: Let him go. Hiei glared at Heero's back before relaxing and turning back to his fox. He tore off his cloak and wrapped the limp Kurama up tightly. He handed the precious bundle over to Duo. Hiei: Take him. Travel to the east. You will come to an old run down castle. Inside there will be a man who can help. Now go! Duo: But- Hiei: GO! Duo stood and hugged the fox to his chest before turning and running in the direcion Hiei had indicated. Hiei: Hurry. Heero gritted his teeth. With every step his horse took a new bolt of pain shot through his shoulder. But the pain in his shoulder was almost inconsequential compared to the turmoil in his heart and mind. That small kiss from the thief, no the kiss from Duo was making him doubt everything he'd ever known. Heero: ~He let you go. Why?~ Heero brushed his fingertips over his lips. They still seemed to tingle with the memory of that brief moment with Duo. Then Heero realized that soon he would be forced to make a decision… his duty... or Duo. |
