After One Declares His Faith in the Oneness of Allah and in His Messeger Muhammad(pbuh) then it becomes incumbent upon him or her to offer his our prayer to Allah 5 times a day at set times each day.

After one comes to the conclusion and realization that God exists, and that He deserves to be worshipped and under stands the 6 basic beleifs, and then declares his or her faith, then it naturally follows that he or she must put to use this theoretical knowledge by practically appyling it in his our life, so salah or prayer is how one acts out his faith, it is a communion with ALlah that is made five times a day, it wards off evil and keeps one constantly aware of the presence of God all day long, it serves as a purification of the soul. Muhammad(pbuh) was said to have said that if one had a river in front of his house where it bathed 5 times a day then that one would always be clean, so Salah can be thought of a spiritual shower one takes 5 times daily that keeps his or sould pure from bad intnetions and desires and from the temptiings of the enemy devil.
