Dad's Little Angel of Mercy

She walks in with a smile on her face...
But sometimes in her eyes...you see the helplessness she feels in her heart...
From dolls to defibrillators...way to fast for her dad...

A new life had just entered the world and I held her in my arm
And I made a silent promise to try my best to keep her safe from harm
With big blue eyes that would set any new dad's heart aglow
Never realizing as I looked at her how quickly my little angel would grow...

I would watch her care for her dolls...a game she would often play
And listen as she would tell them that she was there and they were going to be OK
A child's game of pretend which she would play just for fun
But as time went by I began to see that she would become one of God's chosen one...

To give her all to those in need who's life may suddenly end
An angel of mercy to a dying soul...a special person God has send
Risking it all...not for glamour that so many yearn to gain
But simply because of their love of others and to help to ease their pain...

I can no longer protect her as she crawls inside a mangled wreck
To stabilize and rescue someone who may possibly have a broken neck
Or be with her as she holds an infant who will never again see the sun
For now my little angel is not playing with dolls and this is no longer a game or fun...

Each time I hear her roll on a 911 in my heart I silently pray
That God will be by her side and keep her safe another day
For He has called her and she has answered to be one of the best
She is now "your little angel"...an angel of mercy with the EMS...

With all my love - Dad

Concentrating...even then...watching a rescue documetary on TV...

At Annapolis Royal (Port Royal)...remembering her past and planning her future...

Well it's off to training...again...

And time to put on the bunker gear...

"Station 41...MVA on 102...north of Exit 5...rollover...occupants trapped...confirmed injuries..."
"Rescue 41...10-4..."
A few words which can alter a person's life forever...

Night time is finally here...and with it a well earned break
after another long day on the fire line knocking down a wilderness wildfire...
Exhausted...sore...eyes and skin still burning from the extreme heat...
yet...they still smile...because that's who and what they are...(29 May 2002)

A picture of the wildfire they had to face...(29 May 2002)

Another picture of the fire as it was being knocked down...(29 May 2002)

Another day...another fire...but one with a twist...

A Nova Scotia DNR helicopter coming in with it's "water bucket" loaded and ready to drop...

The fire now under control...teams get a chance to rotate for a well earned short break...
Note the air bottles on the right.
Due to the nature of this fire and the material which was burning
crews had to wear their breathing apparatus...

All smile...it's over and no one was injured...
Michelle (L) and fellow team member enjoy a bottle of cold water...

But there is a social life...a surprise 20th birthday party for her (June 2002)...

And a quiet moment to read the birthday wishes from her fellow Fire Fighters...Paramedics...and friends...

A scene so often seen in movies and on TV...intubation being performed by a Paramedic.
This critical procedure must be accomplished correctly in the lenght of time a person can hold their breath.
At Holland College...Michelle is fine tuning her skills at this possible life saving procedure...

Dad has to finally accept the fact that his little girl has grown up...

but she will forever remain his..."little angel"...

Michelle...at work

Michelle...well...not at work...hmmmmmm
