In this sense, the theory of the Communists may be summed up in the single sentence: Abolition of private property. --Communist Manifesto.THE TALK
I fell kind of silly writing about communism one hundred and fifty years after the Communist Manifesto. I started this in 1976, twenty years ago. In Russia. I thought that it is so important that I typed my book of notes _Real Socialism_ in a special way to fit into cigarette packages and took it with me when I defected in Italy. A few years later in New York I spent several months typing my notes into a new book _Second Death_. There was no interest in publishing the book; what is there that we don't know? I was agree. By the end of the eightieth the Communist system collapsed and my Russian book lost any relevance. The subject seized to existed. Everybody knew that communism is no more. I was in agreement. On my trip to Russia in 1992 I didn't even bother to recover my archives. I don't know where are those original pages from the cigarette packages and I when I lost my Russian typewriter. Communism seems to me a matter for historians. After my return from Russia in 1994 and from Africa in 1995 I finished my American quest for living and experiences. I wrote a book in English, a novel. In the middle of the second novel I began to write my notes in English (very much under the influence of the postmodern thinkers, I missed them in my running around the countries). It was the same as in Moscow twenty years before that. What I didn't expect that somehow I will end not only with the nightly notes-diaries (now in English) but with the same problematics. I was surprise to see that I continue to write about communism. Communism in America! (I re-read _Democracy in America_ which was written not long before the Marx's first manuscripts; to get myself back to the mainstream thought). For a year I keep my silence, I don't know how to break the news to my colleagues what America is the most advanced communist system. The same as in Moscow, when I have to hide my writing. I have enough problem with being a postmodernist.
Perhaps, it would be easy for me to write about America as a model of communism if I can be a communist by convictions, but unfortunately the opposite is the truth -- I am against communism in principle (as if somebody could be against rain or gravity). I have to discover it and to denounce it. I think that something is wrong in this position. I guess, I'm still struggle with time. Being a communist or a postmodernist is just a name for my period of history. If I live in Alaska, I'm called an Alaskan. But communism is loaded with political connotations and to call yourself and the rest of humankind "communists" is kind of radical. You don't walk around calling people names.
For number of months I thought that I can get around of this problem through "scholastic" writing; with a lot of quotes, notes, references (when nobody can understand what I am saying). If only I can write it in an academic manner -- and prove it! Marx did it. Too bad I never have enough patience to read his books through. Obviously, I don't have enough patience to write them. I kept writing, knowing that I have to give up the dream of writing a serious book. I don't an education to call myself a scholar. Besides, I am not interested in proving it. Communism was and is MY personal problem, I don't any intellectual opponents to fight with. All I try to do is to make sense of my life experiences. I had to let it go, the book idea.
I too believe that today you can write a book but no book could be written. And why would I be interested in writing a book? A human in me would like to go to the library and find MY book on the shelf, but a communist knows that this is nothing but vanity. You see, a communist is a post-modern-after-human-over-man by definition and he has different emotions and interests. Philosopher with a hummer can't write, his writing is functional. It's always a script, a plan for action. It's not really writing but more of a notes for living. Did you see CEOs with memos and recorders? They are not writers, they are doers, movers and shakers as any true communist is supposed to be. Their books are written by the ghost writers, special secretaries with advanced degree in creative writing. Forget the book. (See 4 books)
....In his book "Time Wars," Jeremy Rifkin suggests that many of the conflicts between groups may have been over competing notions of time. Rifkin sees the conflict of our era as being between 'industrial' time, which is individualistic, atomistic, quantitative, utilitarian, artificial (clock-based), centralized, and mechanistic; and what might be called 'post-industrial' time, which is communitarian, participatory, qualitative, empathetic, rhythmic, cyclical, decentralized, and organic.
I use the word "communism" because none of the New Age and Postmodern concepts are strong enough to replaced the marxist doctrine. If you leave aside the communist politics and economics which they famous for and focus on their intentions, you could see that communist ideology caries on the variety of cultural consequences. Classical marxists paid attention to the structure and only with arranging it into proto-communist manner all the super-structure's phenomenons could flourish. Vietnamese are too busy with industrializing to go into spiritual journeys of Californians. In fact, the classical communists were not interested in what a communist society could produced intellectually. Their concerns were the society itself not individuals. God only knows what fantasies the minds of liberated workers could produce! If Lenin didn't see the future communists piercing their bodies for a painful sex, it's not his fault. He and his critics never denied that proletariat is a modern primitive. Marx wrote in 1844 that communism has to go through many stages, including the raw communism.
Let me refer you to Engels' _Principles of Communism_ as an introduction to Marxism, simple if not primitive -- Marxism for Dummies. First, the definition: "Communism is the doctrine of the conditions of the liberation of the proletariat." (Engels) But who is he, a proletariat? A worker. Poor or rich -- who sale his labor. Who is not a worker today? Bill Gates? What are the CONDITIONS of the liberation of Bill Gates?
...."the interests of the proletarians" -- why not to say the abolition of privacy? Why not to spell it out that the slaves never had any property, they were the property, that they have no notion of possession and no will to have? Why this hidden Christian message of the world without flesh when the pure souls saved from life and material existence? Why not to say it?
Comrade Engels (I love this naive Platonic dialogue when you ask yourself questions according to ready answers):
17. Will it be possible for private property to be abolished at one stroke?
No, no more than existing forces of production can at one stroke be multiplied to the extent necessary for the creation of a communal society.
In all probability, the proletarian revolution will transform existing society gradually and will be able to abolish private property only when the means of production are available in sufficient quantity. The last paragraph is about our present conditions. Oh you, the impatient mortals, you should know that a communist has all the time in the world. They rushed into the future. American comrades take their time and having fun. Gradually, friends, and you will never notice that private property is gone. Our multi-national giants are COMPANIES (they are public, they have to go public in order to grow), give Coca Cola another century and see who "owns" it.
Peaceful (cultural) revolution. How it shall be done (a few examples):The American conservatives are agonizing over secondary issues -- gun control law, abortion.... What difference does it make that you have a rifle on the wall at the time of the high tech weapons? Only the clowns of militia could think that can defend themselves. They forgot that the food they get from the store, electricity and water from the municipal utilities and even the bullets through the mail order. What abortion when "all children, from the moment they can leave their mother care"?... They are under national care before they born, stupid! What do you think the hospitals are for? Why don't they protest against medical insurance? Or better the medicine itself![18] (i) Limitation of private property through progressive taxation.... (We got it!)
(v) An equal obligation on all members of society to work until such time as private property has been completely abolished.... (We do it!)
(viii) Education of all children, from the moment they can leave their mother's care, in national establishments at national cost. (We done it!)Of course, we must preserve their illusions that they have THEIR children. Let them think that they have families. How? Let talk about preservation of family values! Lets talk about it 24 hours a day. The Soviet propaganda did it, insisting that the Soviet people live well. We could better than that; did we prove that we have a better technology, more sophisticated methods? Compare their propaganda and our advertizing -- night and day! Make it soft, make it into Ninja Turtles or Convertibles, even the liberal Sesame Street has nothing to with FAMILY VALUES. There are no mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, grandmother, grandfathers in COMMUNIST fairy-tales -- only strangers! It's the STREET, dummy! The global village!
All of them are monsters, some cute some ugly. We love them all, they are OUR monsters, our heroes. Too bad that the Politburo couldn't record music video! Gorbachev should formed the rock band to stay in power. The state doesn't dance. The communism had to grow into maturity, remember Engels -- "only when the means of production are available in sufficient quantity" we can transform the SOCIETY. And we don't have to do by the government alone. It's the CULTURAL revolution, make it the POPULAR CULTURE. Ask Michael Jackson how to do it, he knows. Play the ball, sing, dance! Communism is fun! It should be entertaining....
The Manifesto: "The working men have no country."Yes, globalization is a must. To what level? Are we ready?
Engels:19. Will it be possible for this revolution to take place in one country alone?
No.
By creating the world market, big industry has already brought all the peoples of the Earth, and especially the civilized peoples, into such close relation with one another that none is independent of what happens to the others.I live in Fairbanks. I live comfortable in a modern home (much better than my Moscow or New York apartment) in the place where only the Natives could live. In December it's really dark and really cold, but I don't live in Alaska. I live in America. In America it's never dark and always worm. My car and my garage is heated by the communist utilities. The food in Fairbanks fall from the sky (remember the Bible). All I have to do is go to Safeway (what a name!) and get it. I even can order it (remember Jesus), I say -- let it be! And pizza is there, at my door. We call is the city of Fairbanks. (Golden Heart!) How can I question the prophecies of the fathers of communism?
[20] "....the difference between city and country is destined to disappear."Indeed, I see no difference.
....Communists saw humanism as an ideology of the bourgeoisie and fought it with the bullets. They were so successful in their attacks on capital that it took an atomic bomb to keep them behind their Iron Curtain. We weren't ready for communism, the world wasn't computerized. They knew that it's difficult for people not to be humans. They kill a lot trying to convert the humans into communists. It took many thousand years (according to Darwin) to turn the animals into humans, do you think we can do de-humanization and communization in one generation?
With years I understood the logic of killing the intelligencia and people with reading glasses. They are always the careers of humanism, they are professional humans and they have to be killed even if they are the party member. Humans are always humans, they never make good communists. American anti-intellectualism is a peaceful genocide against humanism, too. We learned that the open repression of human breeds resistance, opposition and decent. It must be done in cultural, not political forms. American Constitution is a document of modernity but can we interpret it in postmodern (communist) terms?
25. In America, where a democratic constitution has already been established, the communists must make the common cause with the party which will turn this constitution against the bourgeoisie and use it in the interests of the proletariat.... (Engels)Peacefully. Can we read the Bill of rights as a communist text? How to neutralize this freedom of speech so it won't be "human" right anymore? Will the talk shows do it? The constant talking without pauses and breaks, when there's no time to think. Bakhtin's dialogism is very advanced marxist concept. We have to reach such a level of collectivization when there's no room left for reflections, only for reaction (brainstorming). We even will protect THIS freedom of chatting as long as ALL will be talking ALL the time! As long as every idiot's opinion is important and equal! We'll publish more books; with the Net we moved one step closer to a realization of this goal. Internet is extremely democratic (anti-intellectual) and almost free (the government pushes it in school, remember Engels?). Cheap small talk, party atmosphere -- full and final disappearance of monologue. Now I know how the end of the book looks like -- a lot of bad writing.
The giant of history always misunderstood. Jews didn't get it right with Jesus. And Hitler meant well (for the Germans). So did Stalin and Mao. They did their best. Without much education they tried to put in place very complicated system. Like Unabomber they had to kill people to get our attention. It works. Communist ideas made it into big history. Actually, they made the history of this century. In fact, communism is the history. The only history we got. Listen, before the humanized Olympic gods there were the generation of monstrous creatures, the titans. Communism with a human face is possible only in form of a society, not a state. It has to be American face, friendly and smiling. Communism is good. We like it.
[ I call this file _Talk Show_ because I talk as if I have my own show. I show you my talk. I talk to myself and other dead people. ]
The title. I think we must have it -- The Frozen Paradise. It should be readily available. You take it out of your refrigerator, stuck it in your microwave and it's ready for consumption. Paradise is a commodity, it must be. I don't mind I have to work and save to purchase this product. It's all right, I like to have it, the happiness. If it requires some "exploitation" and "alienation" I can live with it. Because it taste great! Have you driven it lately?
Well, now the final stage of acceptance -- the private parts. Departure from myself. Something I am afraid to show. I have to give up my body! (On my driver's license it said "Organ Donor" -- basically I'm a driving organ surplus). I have to go public -- plain naked. I always knew that I am a bad communist, I'm too human, not ready for happiness. The only way I can do it if I remember that I am a corporation -- The Anatoly, Inc. If I am a company (of shareholders -- my many functions/identities are nothing less than presence of humanity). If I am a product of time with a market value, I shouldn't be ashamed of myself.
I have to get over this feeling that I am about to rape myself. Courage, man. Didn't you go through many conscious humiliation before? It has to be done, comrade. You can do it! Go for it! Rape the bastard! Enjoy it! Do it! For your and his own good! Trust us!...
If you never thought about killing yourself, you don't know about the self-rape. No, I am not talking about many who never had themselves as their property. Who never met themselves, never treasured the Self. You wouldn't rape your mother ort dauther, would you? You are not a true communist yet. Did we tell you that there is no family in the Kingdom of God? How many times do you have to be told that the sin is no more? Don't you know how to mastrubate? The show time! Do in the open! Share it with the humanity! What's matter with you, comrade?
Do you think it's not easy to be a human? Try to be a good communist. Try to be an American. I bet you still don't know why Americans love to laugh. After the tears comes the silence, after the silence -- the laughter. Don't be surprise that the sitcome charaters will shoot you in the face -- this is his laughter in reverse.
I don't know how they can handle it. At least, I write. They don't.
Listen, my fights are not with the present, but with the future. The time I won't live in.
