About Agency for New Americans

Agency for New Americans (ANA) is all about providing the education and skills necessary for refugees to become self-sufficient.  We are a private, nonprofit provider of employment, case management, and training services for people who have fled their homeland and are unable to return due to fear of persecution based on race, religion, nationality, or membership in a particular social group or political opinion.

We believe in human rights, education, and cultural diversity.  Americans are the daughters and sons of immigrants-we welcome those who, through no fault of their own, must start their lives anew with the protection of freedom and dignity.  ANA provides the opportunity and know-how to rebuild their lives by means of direct job placement following extensive English tutoring, acculturation, and job-seeking skills.

Who We Serve

ANA annually welcomes over 200 refugees who call the Treasure Valley their new home.  Over the years refugees have come from Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.  Initially, refugee families qualify for cash and rent assistance as they enter English classes, receive job skills, and self-confidence.

Within 4 months following their arrival, most adult clients have begun work and become a very positive component to the economy.  Employers have been very impressed with the strong work ethic that refugees bring to the workplace.  Refugees also offer the employer bilingual and bicultural skills, loyalty, and dependability.

How We Operate

ANA leverages community resources to supplement the needs that existing funding does not provide for.  Donors are crucial partners in the success of our mission.  Individuals, businesses, and faith communities provide volunteer time, monetary gifts, household furnishings, bicycles, and cars to meet the needs of the refugee families.

We promote our mission and generate revenue through community events highlighting human rights issues, cultural diversity, international dinners, and employer appreciation luncheons.  Sponsorship opportunities are available to organizations and businesses who wish to cultivate and enrich their diversity image.

ANA advocates for New Americans at private and public forums, raising community awareness of the strengths and accomplishments of this talented and diverse group.  We partner and intermediate with local, state, and federal agencies, schools, businesses, faith communities, and neighborhoods to enhance the success of all involved.

How You Can Get Involved

Volunteer:  ANA relies on volunteers to provide English tutoring, transportation to job interviews, and assistance with activities such as fundraising and marketing, administrative support and mentoring.

Donate:  Household furnishings, bicycles, cars, monetary contributions, bequests, and endowments to ANA are tax-deductible, as provided by law.

Sponsor:  Your family, business, or faith community can have the opportunity to host a newly arrived refugee family for the first 30 days.  What a great way to become lasting friends with people of a different culture!

Hire:  On-site job training programs produce skilled and reliable workers in industries ranging from hospitality to hi-tech.  ANA may have a qualified job candidate perfectly suited to your needs.

Event:  By sponsoring an event, your organization or business enriches its diversity image in the community, state and nation in which it has a presence.  Opportunities are available for small or large event sponsorship.
