Aims and Objects

As defined in its Constitution

  1. To promote the scientific and secular approach to the study and writing of history, especially Indian history;
  2. To controvert and oppose reactionary, communal, fundamentalist and chauvinistic interpretations;
  3. To struggle against all authoritarian attempts at controlling history-writing by means of official or private patronage, censorship, persecution or threat thereof;
  4. To encourage the study of the history of the life and conditions of the masses; and
  5. To employ the following means towards the advancement of the above aims and objects:

    1. hold discussions, seminars, lectures, etc.;
    2. publish, sell and circulate documents, reports, pamphlets, monographs, journals, etc.;
    3. raise money by collecting donations and subscriptions;
    4. establish a library and or museum for use of members and other scholars;
    5. purchase or hire premises for its office, library, and other activities
    6. employ whole-time or part-time staff; and
    7. do such other things as directly or indirectly promote the said aims and objects.
