Degrassi History
Degrassi: The Next Generation premiered October 14, 2001 but the Degrassi history
began nearly 20 years earlier with "The Kids of Degrassi St." in 1979. It ended its six year run in 1985 but this was not
the end of Degrassi, in fact it was just the beginning as the Degrassi series continued on to become one of the most successful
and entertaining shows in Canadian Television History! The Degrassi series enthralled viewers around the world. Here you will

THE KIDS OF DEGRASSI STREET: 1979-1985 The Kids of Degrassi Street began the Degrassi Anthology. The show focused on a group of kids from different racial
and socio-economic backgrounds who all lived on Degrassi
DEGRASSI JR. HIGH: 1986-1989 Degrassi
Jr. High began airing in 1986 focusing on the lives of a group of kids as they made their way through Jr. High school. A few
cast members who appeared on The Kids of Degrassi St. continued on in Degrassi Jr. High as different characters. Degrassi
Jr. High hit it off with viewers all over the world as a very realistic series, which tackled the problems of pre-teens and
had a lot of fun doing it. This entertaining series was an instant classic enthralling viewers for years to come. There was
always an issue one of the most famous ones was young pregnant Christine "Spike" Nelson and her refusal to leave school which
earned the show several awards and nominations.
DEGRASSI HIGH: 1989-1991 The transition to High School brought many new characters into the mix and the issues got even more serious. Abortion,
abusive boyfriends, suicide, vandalism and rape were only just a few of the issues that were tackled with tact, dignity but
above all else sincerity, honesty and truthfulness.
DEGRASSI: SCHOOL's OUT MOVIE:1991 Degrassi: School's out was a two hour movie of the week. where the graduates of Degrassi began a summer
of fun loving parties, hot dates and part time jobs. It's not all fun and games as the summer ends, friendships are tested
and the grads get ready to enter the real world.
DEGRASSI TALKS: 1992 Degrassi
Talks continued in true Degrassi tradition but this time with a new spin on things. It was a bold series in which the actors
moved out from the spotlight and behind the camera to interview real kids about the issues affecting them. Some of the topics
covered included: sex, alcohol, abuse, depression and drugs.
DEGRASSI:THE NEXT GENERATION: 2001 to Present Degrassi took a nine year hiatus before
