Zhao Yun

Zhao Yun was courageous as well as cautious. His courage and cautiousness could be seen in his success in rescuing O-tou, the son of Liu Bei, from millions of enemy troops. But the most outstanding instance of the manifestation of his courage and cautiousness was depicted in his acceptance of the "Three Secret Plans" in an operation designed by Kong Ming.

In this instance, the writer described how Zhao Yun was trusted by Kong Ming. He was the only candidate whom Kong Ming had selected - a candidate with the quality of courage and cautiousness and strategical knowledge capable of keeping the whole situation under control without being easily provoked.

In fighting, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei were superior in strength, but Zhang Fei could not tolerate any form of provocation, and Guan Yu was too proud of himself. Therefore, it was only Zhao Yun who could be entrusted with the mission.

In the story of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the strategy of Kong Ming was outstanding, but it was Zhao Yun who implemented the decision. His meritious services must not therefore be ignored.
