Welcome to the Earls of Arkansas
The letters in the welcome sign is"Cherokee" written in their language.I am one quarter Cherokee. My grandfather and grandmother were full blooded Cherokee. My daughter-in-law,Mary is working on a family tree for the Earls and Whitecotton{my grandmothers maiden name}family.I never knew much about my grandparents childhood and their family.I was just a child when my grandpa died and 20 when my granny died.I had my own family then and never thought to ask my granny about her life as a child. As a child I don't remember her ever talking about her family.I knew they both were Cherokee from my mom talking about it.But other then that I knew nothing. And young people have a way about older folks, they are a bore when they talk about the old "days".God,I have wished a thousand times that I had sat down with my granny or my mom and asked some questions. If only I had asked any of my relations, but now they are all dead and the past is gone with them. Now I have to find out things about them the best way I can and we all know first hand information would have been so much better. So to the young people seeing this page, please take time to talk to your grandparents, they just may have some important stories to tell you.And also you will make them feel so good to have you listen.
The pictures below are my grandparents and I am have come to find out that I don't have many pictures of them.Another one of my short comings.I will talk to my brother and see if maybe he has some more he will share with me.

Charles Ray and Dillie Irene{Whitecotton}Earls
I do not know my grandpa's indian name, because when he was a child he was taken in by a white family and he took their name.I am hoping we will be able to find out something while Mary is doing her searches. But from what I have read,I am afraid it is almost hopeless. They did not keep records to well back then,if an indian did not file with the indian census board, they had no way of keeping track of them and they had to live on a reservation to be counted.
My granny was born on May 17,1895,in Havana,Arkansas. She died in the year 1966.Her parents were Albert and Samantha{Lowery} Whitecotten.I know little about my grandpa. He was born on Feb.8,1888..in Miami Springs,Arkansas and died in the year of 1951 or there about. They had 10 children, all are deceased now.The daughters were Leanes,Hattie Lee,Marylee,Gladys,Syble and the sons were Hazel,John,Bo,Troy and Jay,who died as a child.
The picture below is my mother Leanes Ann She was born on March 12,1927 died on March 12,1992 and is missed every day.She was 65 the day she died.
