Arcadia knitting chronicles
Topic: Finished Objects

Sometimes I have a love/hate relationship with this blog...it ate my Vegas post, so I have given up and am moving on to next fun topic.

Mark and I met up with the Luscious Gracious Crew (Kiki/Steve/Lily and Lucy) and Stephanie on Saturday morning for some brunchies and knitting at Berthas (32nd/IndianSchool for the locals).  We had a great time in the Arcadia district and this will be one of our must go faves.  I was super surprised when Kiki presented us with this AWESOME delicious masterpiece. Note how the buttons look like M & Ms!!!  I love it so much- and I know Ella will too!  Thanks Kiki!!!!<3

I have been feverishly working on knitting here at Chez Secrest.  I joined THE GREAT SEPTEMBER NEEDLE HARVEST to come to terms with my projects, and will have clean needles by the end of September.  Here are a pair of boy-friendly booties (from stitch and bitch nation book 2 using GGH goa) I made for my friend Lisa's baby Colton-- Welcome to the world little guy!- yes I made some custom amyville sushi buttons

Knitting Inspiration
Topic: Finished Objects

Its hard to think about (let alone work the needles) knitting when its 110 outside...but a little knitting has made it through the past month.

I just finished this for a baby back in Indiana-- I used Rowan's Purelife organic cotton (no pattern, just a E.Z. inspired top down cardigan with bell sleeves and seed stitch edging)

I saw this ad in one of my fashion mags...who doesn't love the Benetton?   i have only been to one Benetton store (in London) but its on my list for this fall's trip to NYC.  Look at the all the yummy knits-- just makes me want to break out the all wool and start knittin.

But for now my knitting will still be in the warm weather mode... so I am casting on for a fun shrug that will take me into fall weather.  I got this cone of tussah silk called "Golden Siam" from Artfibers in San Fran

Oh and she knits too.
Topic: Finished Objects

Our good friends are becoming grandparents for the first time this July and again for the second time in October (both their daughters are expecting "back to back")  So for the first born (a granddaughter) I made a few things for them-- Mason Dixon kimono and some ala carte booties-- all unified by the pink debbie bliss yarn and shell buttons

Also since both parents are fellow Purdue grads (this baby will be a 4th generation Boilermaker!) I melded the baby genius burp pattern from mason dixon into the baby bib layout and added a little homemade Purdue button...

This weekend I spent some quality time in my old neighborhood of Glendale (hometown to this idol)- for those familiar with Glendale-- crossroads of N. 43rd Ave and Bell Rd.  One of my favorite stores in the neighborhood is Hobby Bench (sorry they don't have a website).  This store is such a BLAST from the past (toys and crafts!)-- they carry a lot of old stock, and I always find something different each time.  This trip I focused on vintage beads...you gotta love a store that still has hand packaged and hand labeled goods (check it out 39 cents!)... no scan trons!  I found fruit beads and those tri-tip beads... I plan on making oldskool candy canes on pipecleaners for our Christmas tree.. oh and some friendship pins with those tiny safety pins

Topic: Finished Objects

Thanks for everyone's emails and comments over the past few weeks.  They all mean so much.

I have been busy as usual at Chez Secrest.  Busy is good, always good!  I finally got around to trying out a pattern I had in my must knit archives for a couple years, yes years.  I made these for a friend of a friend's baby shower-
Ugg Booties....

And Mail - Love is always awesome   Check out a sampling of the goodies Jen sent (there was just too much stuff to photograph and you all would have been jealous! :) )  I am LOVING my sushi set!  oh and that little milk figure with horns is TOKIDOKI- and who doesn't love the SMURFS? THANKS JEN!
