Comprehensive list of features:

• Create and manage listings of all the files on your CDs. Listings can be edited, entries can be described manually or removed.
• Search in your entire collection for a filename
• Search options:
• Partial name (default) [fileNAME123.txt] Bolded text represents a partial match for the string name.
• Exact name. String matches entire filename [FILENAME123.TXT]
• Wildcards. Valid wildcards are : '?' - replaces one character; '*' replaces any number of characters (zero or more). You are not required to use a point in the search string like for a DOS filespec. [filenam*] will return [filename123.txt]
• Advanced options : Checked items are required for a match. More then one item checked means item must match ALL criteria specified (AND relation).
• Advanced - description : match string anywhere inside the description field
• Advanced - extended info (used for dir/archive listings) : match string anywhere inside the extended info field
• Advanced - file type : search only for directories, only for files, or any
• Advanced - by size : find files having size '>' larger ; '<' smaller; '~' within +/- 10% of specified value
• Advanced - by CD : search only in selected CD listings
• Search options are remembered between sessions.
• Double click on list of found items : Detailed information window appears. Full descriptio, extended info are displayed.
• Insert corresponding CD and you may run the file directly from CD Index (run program, open file in associated application, open in explorer if directory)

• CD listing creation is done automatically. Sorry, wizard is not yet available. Just insert your CD, wait for it to be recognized, then press "Build Index". Then name it and press "New Index"
• CD listings can be managed (loaded, processed, saved, deleted)
• Double click in listing area to edit current item.
• Manual editing of description, extended info available.
• Directories can be processed with options in upper right corner. (listing, etc)
• Item can be removed.

• Listing processing options (description related) :
• Directory :
• FILE_ID.DIZ inside directory can be added as it's description BBS like.
• if above exists, do not keep files under directory. Description should be enough
• Listing of all files and subdirs put in extended info
• Statistics : no. of files, total size of files under directory in extended info
• Files ZIP, ARJ, RAR archives :
• If archive contains FILE_ID.DIZ, extract it and store as description BBS like
• List all files in archive in extended info.
• Files MP3 :
• List MP3 ID3 tag as description. See example above.

Installation :

• Make a directory of your choice and copy CD Index there
• Create a link on Desktop/Start menu
• Run CD Index

Note: CD Index creates it's storage files in it's working directory.
Note: CD Index stores various settings in CDINDEX.INI in your WINDOWS directory.
 

Uninstallation :

• Delete CD Index's direcotry contents.
• Delete link on Desktop/Start Menu
• Delete CDINDEX.INI from your WINDOWS directory.

TODO :

• Make an installer.
• Improve search algorithm speed.
• Add support to multiple types of archives, not only RAR, ZIP, ARJ.
• Remember previous state of interface as default search pattern.  (DONE)
• Improve management of MP3's with ID3v3 tag (anyone know the format?) and MP3's without Id3 tag.

Minima fix - find missing indexes :

• Version 0.4.99b8 brings a small fix to the problem of having the index files, but due to a system reinstall, the cdindex.ini, which is kept under c:\windows was lost and all reference to the indexes too.
• If you are in such situation, install the latest version, run it. It won't find the indexes right away. enter a search string (anything) and press "Find". Indexes will be looked up and the index list will be properly recreated.
• You will have to close CDIndex and restart it to properly use the "CD databases" function. Sorry. This is why I call it a minimal fix :(
• Will try to improve on it soon.
