Well, anyways. This ex-SOLDIER member is off on his own, trying to make money. His name is Cloud. Cloud gets a mission to blow up a Mako reactor for a certain amount of gil (money). By the way- a Mako reactor is like a power plant. They take Mako energy and use it in people's homes. So Cloud pretty much is forced to join this group that rebells against the Mako company (AVALANCHE). Well, after they blow up the second reactor, he falls, most certainly to his death. But a flower bed breaks his fall and the girl that tends to the flowers takes a liking to him and joins your party.
After this, you find out the mako reactors secret. Cloud no longer seems to be along only for the money, and this is making his best childhood friend, Tifa (yes, she's a girl) jealous. Gee I wonder why. Could she have a crush on Cloud? Well, people keep after Aeris, the flower girl. Why do they want her so much? Why have people been trying to take her away from her family for her entire life? For that matter, where IS her family?
You get so attached to the characters that you cry for them when they are sad, you laugh for them when they tell funny jokes, you spaz with them when you beat the hardest dude of the game for the first time (Emerald Weapon- around 1,500,000 to 2,000,000 HP) and when they get mad at somebody, you hate them too. Or maybe that's just me and my sister. Who knows?

I cried over so many things in this game.. yes, I do realize that they are only polygons on a poly-gonal background. But the story behind them is so much deeper than that. The characters all have so much personality and thought. They are all deep and they all have their own separate thoughts and feelings on issues that are discussed in the game. They all mature and grow throughout it. And you may hate Sephy in the beginning, after the end of the second disc, but later, you will come to realize that he isn't what he seems to be.. yes, he's still a nut. But no one is what they seem to be. Cloud definatly isn't. Aeris is so much more. Tifa is much more sensitive than she lets on, and so is Barret! Yeah, he is. He acts tough, but he's got a heart and soul like everybody else. His past is very painful. Red XIII (Nanaki) is something no one can classify. Cat? Dog? Something in between? But he's so special to the party. And Yuffie.. have you had her in your party at the end of the first disc? You'll see her true feelings. She isn't ALL about materia! And then.. Vincent! One of my personal favorite anime characters. He is so deep.. and is in so much pain. His beloved.. Lucrecia! She was so important to him, and he feared he could not live without her. You'll hate Hojo even more after you find out about Cloud, Vincent, Aeris, Red XIII, Sephiroth, the Jenova Reunion, everything. I can't decide who I hate most.. Hojo, Ikari Gendo, or Nakago. I hate them so much! Cid is one who is not anything more than he lets on. He's got so much bottled up inside. His dreams, his hopes, and his love for a certain person who lives in his house! And even little Cait Sith! Yes, the Mog Man. HIM!! He is a good friend, even though you may not like him much. You saw what he did for the planet after Temple Of The Ancients! And even though he may not be an 'idol' like Aeris, he is cool.
Weapons cause great pain. Ok, that's not too deep a lesson, but it's VERY TRUE!! Trust me, Emerald made mincemeat outta me in 3 seconds flat. Well, I poked him with a submarine. More like smashed into him...
Storyline
5/5 AH! A complex, deep story.. such a wonderful break from most other things.. (American pie? Ring a bell or three nine? Oh, man, THAT'S a knee-slapper. I crack no one up)
