CENSUS
Nancy Brister has very graciously posted the page images for the 1860 Jefferson County, MS census on ROOTSWEB. She has also proofread this index for me, for which I am very grateful. These images can be viewed at the following address:
By Clicking on the Town or District on the left, you can search for your ancestors, find the image#, and go look at the page!
Notes:
Th census taker had a very legible handwriting. However he always spelled Emily as Emaly, Lydia as Liddia, Alice as Allice, Jeanette as Jennett, and Archibald as Archabald or abbreviated as Arch'd.
J's look like I's, always written above the line. Y's also written above the line. Some K's looked like R's.
This index is NOT an exact transcription of the Census, but a transcription of the names as we believe them to be. We have used other resources such as Cemetery Records and Bible records and personal knowledge of the inhabitants of the area in order to provide the most usable document. It is copyrighted so please do not copy this index for any purpose without permission from me.
Please feel free to e-mail me with your comments or corrections!
Thank you,
Ann Geoghegan
