Wilma Dykeman


Wilma Dykeman was born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina (Higgs 289). She went to college at Northwestern University. Her fiction books include THE TALL WOMAN, THE FAR FAMILY, and RETURN OF THE INNOCENT EARTH. She also is the author of non-fiction including THE FRENCH BROAD and books she co-authored with her husband James Stokely: NEITHER BLACK NOR WHITE and SEEDS OF CHANGE (Higgs 289). She has received several awards including the Thomas Wolfe Memorial Award and the Guggenheim Fellowship (Higgs 289). Dykeman is known as a dynamic speaker and lectures around the country with around thirty public engagements per year (Higgs 289). She is currently teaching at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
