Model:Tank Engine

Modeller: Graham Jost, Bentleigh East, Victoria, Australia

Notes: This model is based on a photograph in the French book "La Fantastique Epopee de Meccano" by Jean-Louis Figureau & Edmond Besson. It is powered by a geared non-Meccano motor and runs on a length of three-rail O-gauge track between buffers.  The viewer operates an Elektrikit knife-switch to right or left, according to the desired direction of movement.   Concealed microswitches in each buffer foil attempts to shorten same!

Purists, please avert your eyes from the Triangular Flexible Plates forming the smoke deflector; also the Flanged Wheels with balance weights!

Model: "Mallard" 4-6-2 locomotive of 1937-38

Modeller: Ralph Clark, Bath, UK

Notes: This is Ralph's 1:13 scale model of one of the most famous locomotives in railway history. Built in his favourite colours of red and green, the unique streamlined boiler housing has been reproduced extremely well in Flexible Plates - a most difficult task accomplished to perfection. The side valances [later discarded] as well as Walschaert's valve gear have been accurately modelled. At exhibitions, the model was raised above the rails to display the working action.

Model: British Railways Class 9F Franco-Crosti 2-10-0 freight locomotive

Modeller: Paul Joachim, London, UK

Notes:This massive model is built to a scale of 1" per foot. The model is detailed to exhibition standard and boasts operating tender, doors, water scoop, motion and valve gear, and suspension. The chassis is accurate so the plan can be used as a basis for making any of the 9F Standard class types of the series.  This model came second for the Issigonis Shield at Skegness in 1991. Full building instructions have been published as a ModelPlan.
