Some Pointers to Help Get you Started
You
have 4 levels per Dungeon. And 2 Dungeons per land. Without the added levels via the
patch, you have 4 lands in total you have 30 levels to get through, Draak is the 31st.
Always cover each land before heading downstairs as often people in the lands activate
what you have to do down below. You only meet Sebastian at the end of
your first Dungeon usually near who you return to see to get the crystal from. You
meet him again in Serkesh (last land). By level 16 you should have 4 crystals - if you
don't talk to Chrissy or I as something has gone wrong. By the time you meet Sebastian
again you should have 7 crystals.
About the Quests as I know this
still bugs Chrissy and MamaZen. You get a quest to do but not always do they come in
the level you are at, sometimes it can be the next land. Was saying to Chrissy each
time I think I've finished a level I open my map and run round and in some
cases you can see parts of your map are not lined in - head here as you have missed this
room - this is very easy to do when in heavy battles. The best thing to do is click on
this button it has this <<<<< or is it this >>>>>> can't remember. I have learnt
to quickly click through them till I find who asked for the Quest item. btw
Night Vision comes in very handy for seeking out monsters that usually lead to
rooms not opened.Chrissy and I can really relate to aging in this game right Chrissy!
*LOL* You age fast so don't be a snail anywhere. Keep moving, in your first game Youth
Elixers start appearing from level 28 and they cost you an arm and a leg. So start
learning to steal from now on. This is for Chrissy..........thieving ages
you faster. So I'm not so sure what's the biggest gripe the age factor that costs us
big or being broke. Wait till you see what that skills bloke charges much later and for
what, to hear "failed!!!!!!!!" Ahh speaking of skills you need them all. *shock*
*horror* Yep we've been there done that. Your most important to keep on top
of is learning but the rest are just important.
If you are getting absolutely sick
of the way it is randomly choosing quests you can choose your own quests:
In your Darkstone\Config directory there should be a file called quest.txt.Each
line has a number from 0-2 on it. You can change the first seven lines. I'm not sure
the effect of changing the last one is.I'd leave it alone. Since each of the seven crystals
has 3 possible quests, I think you can figure out what those numbers mean.
After editing the quest.txt file mark it read-only so that when you start the game
it does not modify it. (dszd0gm - Delphine)

MAPS
Maps are saved in the temp-folder, not in the savegame. So if
you continue your last game, your maps are still there, but if you started
a new game, they are gone.
To get round the problem some Characters have
the skill "Orientation" use this skill and you will see your map for a few
seconds, or use Night Vision it will at least show up where the monsters are and
the map for a few seconds.

RUNES INFORMATION
Okay, you can assign runes to any items ('cept
uniques and quest items, I guess..oh, and probably food..though that would be funny;
'chicken leg of thunder 890(890)') you can assign runes to items that
already have properties (+to all, etc), provided they only have ONE property, i.e. not
'+to all', and '+to armour' (or whatever). If you try to rune something that has more
than one magical affect, your character will say something like "It does not work".
Yes, assigning to rings is good, as they won't get wrecked; also, assigning
to items you have to repair will drive repair costs through the roof, so is also not
massively advisable (but you're a thief, so cash flow isn't a problem).
How to use runes?
Boost up your mana as much as possible (get lots of items of '+X to mana') and have
your rune and your 'item to be enchanted' in your inventory/on your body. Then select
your chosen spell, and right click on the rune. You get a mad-funky sound, and the rune
disappears. Then take your mouse pointer and left-click on the item of
your choice. PRESTO, all your mana is gone, and you're left with an item that is
'your spell X(X)'Then drink a mana potion to replenish your stocks (it's easy to forget
to do..I did, went back into the dungeon, got hit, cast healing, and said 'I do not have
enough - help! please help! ARGH") Incidentally, if you decide you don't
want to rune this thing, but have already right clicked on the rune, right clicking again
returns it to its original state, no harm done (I think).I might have got the right/left
mouse buttons mixed up on the second bit (I'm a bit crap like that), so save beforehand,
just in case.
As to the spells, that depends on the way you play...do
you use thunder a lot? Would it be advantageous to you to be able to cast
higher level thunder from a separate mana source? Then do it.Personally, I've not
really got into the whole 'thunder' thing, and all my stuff is runed up with the
spells I usually use most often, just so I don't get stumped and mana-less in the middle
of nowhere...I also stay invisible for a LONG time..............
