IS IT OR IS IT NOT KING'S QUEST!?!

Hi! I have seen so many negative responses about KQ8, I just felt I
had to tell why I liked it so much! I have never found a game before
where it kept my attention from the very beginning to the very end!
It was different with the combat added in. At first I didn't know
what to think but once I started playing it was fun. Never had I
played where I had to fight. I am a non violent person but
this was
ok I was just killing skeletons and plants and trees *LOL* I mean
come on no real harm there. It was always exciting to see what the
next land was like and like the Frozen Reaches the snow was so real.
The game had 3 levels of combat making it more challenging! You have
to admit just a few *S* people have played the game and I haven't
heard of anyone , maybe 1 or 2 players not finishing the game

because it was so bad. The only complaint I had was too many
glitches and seemed like the ending was rushed! I really liked the
           game!                  (Kim)

I liked it, but not as a KQ game. It was my very first game with
such violence, which was bothersome at first, but once I got   used
to it, it was fine. Besides, if I hadn't played MOE, I never would
have tried Betrayal in Antara (my fave) or Diablo.    (Jennifer)

Hi! Then you have folks like me who had never heard of Kings Quest
and jumps in with Kings Quest 8 first - the other 7 I bought later
and I was disappointed with them they seemed so dull and boring with

the exception of 6. Why do so many of you say it is not a Quest game
           - You start out with King Graham and his subjects being turned to
Stone - you have Daventry lifeless - many a time throughout the game
you hear Connor of Daventry - you know not all Royality won the
wars!!!! I get the feeling if you could have returned to Daventry
with Trumpets a blaring and Connor being Knighted then you would
have said wow what a great King's Quest game!!!!!!!  (Red)

It's a quest game all right, it just doesn't feel like a KING'S
quest game, because it's not a royal person who is starring, it's a
peasent. King Graham shows up for less then 30 seconds in it (alive)
and has no real part in it. It was a fun game, but I didn't consider
it a kq game.     (Mum Jennie)

Once I started playing I didn't want to stop  For me it was a good
Balance of Puzzles & Fighting. The fighting was not just the
Hack/Hack kind either or a lot of it anyway (the main
baddies)required Thought, Strategy & skill so it challenged me in
lottsa ways which for me a good game does. The minions could be hack
or be hacked but I didn't mind a bit of that either  Luv'd the 3D
Graphics & Music Score & when a whole new land opened in front of me
I couldn't wait to explore & yeah Kim the frozen reaches
were
stunning & riding on the back of the Dragon over the snow topped
mountains & frozen lakes was sooo  To Sum it up I got to play the
Ulimate Hero. The Light that quenched the Dark not only using my
Brain, but all my Strength, Skill's & Intuition. It had it's Flaws
(glitches & some disappointments) but nothing that stopped me
playing or enjoying it overall                        (MamaJen)

I really loved playing Mask. I enjoy the combination of battle and
puzzles. I had only played KQ 7, so am not a purist. It seems the
issue here is not so much whether or not you liked the game, but
that it carried the name of a series called King's Quest. Even if
you didn't feel it kept true to the style of KQ, it still is a fun
           and challenging game. Glitches notwithstanding.
                      (Chrissy)

What I really liked about KQ8 was the atmosphere. The whole game
just felt so amazing. Also, looking back over the game, at all my
saves and stuff in the different  lands, I realize what a great time
I had with it. The game was very gripping and exciting. The glitches
weren't really a problem...just download the patch and viola (unlike
QfG4's error 52 :shudder: ). The main problem I had with the game
was the ending. It was definately too short and inconclusive. After
I played it, I went and bought the rest of the series, which
were
amazing as well, but in a different way. So here are my thoughts on
this feud of KQ8 and the KQ series: I like them all!
                           (Armand)

What I really liked, was the huge environments. I was never at a
loss of where to go; the only times I was stuck was the puzzles.  It
WAS an awesome game, and the only flaw was the absense of the Royal
Family. It would have also been nice if you explored places from
Daventry - for example, the Realm of the Dead instead of the
           Dimension of death.     (Reno6)

(The author of this site is interrupting for a few secs!!) New
players note: sometimes downloading the patch is not the cure to
these bugs & glitches as other minor hiccups occur - if this happens
to you load the MoE board and a number of players will help you to
the best of their ability mainly being: Tuko, Kim, Alpha and myself.
                                   (Red)

I personally did not like it, and not because it carried the KQ
title, although that did add to my dislike. I thought it lacked plot
and was extremely repetetive. Evil priest wants to rule the world.
People turn to stone. Connor must save people. That pretty much sums
it up. It almost sounds like the movie "Cave Dwellers" only people
didn't turn to stone in that movie. The repition: Each world is in
turmoil and Connor must save them. Each world also contains a "boss"
which you must defeat by hacking it in two.No puzzles
required on
that one. If I had wanted a game that required brawn and strategy, I
would have bought StarCraft or Betrayal at Krondor.... but then, I
did buy those. I bought Mask because I thought it would be changling
brain-wise, not click-wise. As it turned out, neither were supplied.
The only adventure games still around are those Myst games, and
quite frankly, those don't cut it. There's only thr
ee (soon) and
they're already becoming repetive.  -PA (Prince_Alex)

I thought it was a great game and I liked playing it. Although I
don't think I could handle playing it over again unless i let a few
years pass though. The puzzles were weak and didn't carry the
challengingness (thats not a word) that they did in the other 7
games. I've said this before, but I think QFG did a much
better job
in its transition into the 3D world, and I'm proud to call QFG5 a
Quest for Glory. KQ8 was fun to play, but it was no King's Quest.
                       (Silver 0163)

I always say I didn't like MOE that much, and yet, I continued
playing it and hope to someday finish it. I can usually handle
fighting, I love QFG after all, but the lacking of quirky characters
was what got me. Most of them seemed to just tell you what to do,
then you never dealt with them any more. And believe me, in such a
dark world, happy, wierd and wonderful characters and dialouge would
have really helped me sleep at night. I admit, they well placed
characters like the Sylph to help get away from some of
the fright
fests, but I guess they just could have added a bit more. I also
wish there had been more inventory-based puzzles, as these were few
and far between. When they appeared, however, they did make the cut
by me as traditional KQ puzzles. On the bright side (hah, a bit
ironic as most of MOE was near-darkness! :bg ) the music was nice
and some of the graphics were really amazing. I haven't reached the
Frozen Reaches or Paradise Lost yet, but I hear they are gorgeous.
Overall, MOE could've been better, but a diehard KQ fan should at

least try it. It does make you want to finish.
By the by, what does *S* mean
                                                  (Maghrabi)

*S* means Smileeeeeee!!  Hey Kimmie there's no smile smilie!!
           (Red)

"Behold the power of the great fuzzy bumblebee bear extraordinaire!"
Hehe! What do you mean, Red? Kimmie (Moderator)

Hi Kimmie We need a real smilie smile smile!! *LOL* One with lots of
           animation!! (Red)

Yeah, something like :rotflmao: with a little guy rolling around
           laughing.    (Reno6)

Aha! Okay! Gotcha! I'll add this ROTFL smiley on my list of the next
batch of smileys to do.                             Kimmie
           (Moderator)

I thought MOE was a good game, but I agree, it wasn't a KQ game. I
think KQ fans wouldn't be as torqued if they had taken the KQ name
off the game, changed a few names in MOE (i.e. Daventry), and they
could have made a new game! I liked the game, and some of the
environments were pretty cool, especially Daventry and the Frozen
Reaches. I would have liked it better, though, if Daventry had
looked more like the Daventry from KQ1. But one weakness with pretty
much all KQ games is the lack of interaction with characters. It's

kind of sad to see that the grannie from KQ2 has about as much
personality as some of the characters in KQ8. I would LOVE if I
could help design a KQ9...something with much more intersting
characters and character interaction. One of my favorite games,
Quest For Glory 4, had great characters, and their dialog often
changed, depending on what events had happened during the game.
                 (edenwaith)

Did you know that you can't spell hair peace the right way on here
without it asking you to re-edit your message? I'll betcha that
guard from QFG1 runs these boards! I just bought MOE. It was the
last copy in the mall. It seems a lot like the Zelda games for
Nintendo. I have to wait to get my new computer first before I can
play it though. I still haven't decided to wait, and pay for
the
whole thing in cash when I have saved up for it (in about 2-3
months), or just get one now on credit. That boulder looks like a
           giant ball of yarn! (FlutieFlake)
