Cops Release Sketch of Notorious B.I.G. Suspect
Los Angeles police seized a videotape they believe may contain a recording of the shooting death of rapper Christopher Wallace, a.k.a. Notorious B.I.G. The Houston Chronicle reports that investigators located a tape made by some Houston residents who were in Los Angeles for the Soul Train Music Awards, the event the rapper had attended before his murder. "We expect the tape to give us some key information," L.A.P.D. Lt. Ross Moen told the paper. "We're hoping the tape is going to assist in having people come forward to identify the shooter for us." Police said they learned of the videotape via a tipster featured on the television show America's Most Wanted. Police released a composite sketch based on the contents of the videotape in a press conference Thursday.

The drive-by shooting of Wallace has inspired not only a murder investigation, but a personnel investigation as well. The Los Angeles Times reports that several off-duty Inglewood police officers may have been acting as bodyguards for Wallace on the night of the murder. While it is against department policy for officers to work security for anyone who may have a criminal background (as Wallace did), in an interview to be aired Sunday on MTV, Sean "Puffy" Combs, the head of Wallace's label Bad Boy Records, said his company had hired several police officers to work security on the night of the shooting. Combs denied speculation that Crips gang members were also employed by the label.
