Oakland Outfielders

With outfielders such as new comers David Justice
and John Mabry, hold overs Jermaine Dye, Terrance Long and Adam Piatt, and
rookies like Eric Byrnes, we have a great group of youngsters and veterans.
The A's outfield has seen some major shakeups in the last two years. The
starting out field from the year 2000, Ben Grieve, Rich Becker, and Matt
Stairs are all gone. Even the starting outfield from the 2001 season
will be shaken with Damon gone, Long returning to CF, Dye in right (when
he comes of the DL), a mix of new comer David Justice and Adam Piatt in left
and Eric Byrnes backing them all up. No matter though. Damon
did not live up to expectations for the season, making his production easy
to replace. Having Dye for a full season will be an improvement over
the failed platoon of Giambi and Piatt in right the first half of the 2001
season, and new arrival John Mabry is already proving to be a welcome addition
to the outfield. Justice, with his 11 consecutive playoff trips will
bring a veteran presence to the team. If he can rebound from his injury
plagued 2000 season, it could be a cheap and profitable pick up for the amazing
Billy Beane. He's amazing so far!
