On 4/29/1933 the Washington Senators played the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. It was the bottom of the
ninth with the Senators ahead 6-3. Lou Gehrig was on 2B and Dixie Walker was on 1B with no outs. Tony Lazzeri doubled
to right-center; both runners tried to score on the play. Outfielder Goose Goslin's throw was relayed by Joe Cronin
to catcher Luke Sewell, who tagged Gehrig; Walker was only steps behind Gehrig and he was tagged
by Sewell as well.
At Kansas City on 8/28/1979 the Brewers played the Royals. With Milwaukee batting in the top of the 8th
inning, Sal Bando singled to Willie Wilson; Cecil Cooper hit a ground ball to Frank White at second base. [Sal Bando out
at second on a force play]; Gorman Thomas walked [Cecil Cooper to second]; Ben Oglivie hit a double to Amos Otis
[Cecil Cooper out at home on a throw from Otis to White to
Darrell Porter], Gorman Thomas, on the heels of Cooper,
tagged out at home by Porter.
On July 9, 1985 a game between between the Blue Jays and the Mariners at Seattle. In the
Mariners 3rd Phil Bradley was on second when Gorman Thomas singled.
Bradley was tagged out at home (on a throw from Jesse Barfield to Buck Martinez in a collision
where Martinez breaks his ankle); Buck Martinez, while sitting on the ground in
agony, throws to 3B to nab Gorman Thomas. The throw is wild and goes into left
field. Gorman Thomas streaks home. George Bell (LF) retrieves the ball and
throws it back to Buck Martinez (who is still seated on the ground) who in turn
tags Gorman Thomas. Score remains tied 0-0.
On 8/2/1985 the White Sox played the Yankees at Yankee Stadium). It was the bottom of the 7th inning with the
scored tied 3-3); Andre Robertson (pitcher) singled; Bobby Meacham in to run for
Robertson; Dale Berra reached on an error by Tim Hulett (3B). [Meacham to
second, Berra to first]; Rickey Henderson singled [Meacham out at home on a
throw from Luis Salazar to Ozzie Guillen to Carlton Fisk; Berra on the heels of
Meacham was tagged out at home by Fisk]; Fisk tagged both runners at the plate.
Don Mattingly flied out to Luis Salazar to end the inning. 0 Runs, 2 Hits, 1
Error, 1 LOB (Henderson). White Sox 3, Yankees 3.
At Montreal on 4/18/1992 the Expos played the Mets. In the top of the 6th with New York batting,
Dick Schofield doubled to Ivan Calderon (it was the 2-0 pitch); Bobby Bonilla walked; JEFF
FASSERO REPLACED GARDNER (PITCHING); Howard Johnson walked [Schofield to third, Bonilla to second]; Eddie
Murray singled to Larry Walker (it was the 1-0 pitch) [Schofield scored, Bonilla scored, Johnson to third];
DAVE GALLAGHER BATTED FOR DARYL BOSTON; Gallagher hit a grounder to Bret Barberie at 3rd who threw to
Delino DeShields at second forcing Murray; [Johnson scored]; WILLIE RANDOLPH BATTED FOR DAVE MAGADAN; Randolph walked
[Gallagher to second]; Mackey Sasser singled to Larry Walker (it was the first pitch). Walker threw the ball home to
Darren Fletcher who tagged Gallagher and then threw the ball to Tom Foley to
try and nab Randolph. Foley threw the ball to Tim Wallach at 3rd who
threw home to Fletcher who tagged Randolph out; Darren Fletcher tagged both runners out at the plate.
On 9/28/2000 the Yankees played the Devil Rays at Tampa Bay. In the top of the 2nd inning David Justice
flied out to Gerald Williams; Jose Canseco walked. Tino Martinez hit a double to center field. The ball was fielded by
Gerald Williams who threw to F. Martinez who relayed it to Mike DiFelice, who tagged Jose Canseco at the plate. DiFelice
then tagged Tino Martinez who was running right behind Canseco.
Mike DiFelice tagged both runners out at the plate to keep
the score tied at zero.
