Larry Linville, who played Major Frank Burns died late  Monday April 10th 2000 at New Yorks Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Larry, who had part of a lung removed two years ago after a tumor was discovered, was readmitted to the hospital on Sunday suffering complications from pneumonia.

The actor's longtime manager Larry M Greenberg said "He was wonderfully refreshing and irreverent but always a very talented and professional guy. He took this cancer thing better than anybody I've ever seen."

He is survived by wife Deborah his daughter Kelly, mother Pauline and father Harry, as well as two brothers, Paul and Lanny


Larry was an original member of M*A*S*H. As Major Burns, he became famous for his affair with head nurse Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan, played by Loretta Swit.
"My scenes with Loretta were quite extraordinary because we were a team," Linville said in an interview with CBS radio.
"We were Mutt and Jeff, Roadrunner and Coyote, whatever, we were a proper pair."


Born in Ojai, California on 29th September 1939 he grew up in Sacramento. After graduating from high school, he majored in engineering at the University of Colorado. Always interested in acting he joined a theater group called the Nomad Players who performed at a civic theater in Boulder, Colorado.
In 1959 he won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. He returned to the 'states after graduation and joined the Association of Producing Artists in New York. His stage work included playing Iago in Othello.
