Dear Dr. Mowlam, (or Prime Minister Tony Blair )

As a British Citizen (or British American citizen) I am becoming increasingly concerned at what is threatening to become a lost opportunity for lasting peace in Northern Ireland, the Good Friday Agreement was heralded as the best opportunity ever to solve the crisis which has affected the lives of all the inhabitants of the Province and the current impasse should not be allowed destroy this vital opportunity.

If our understanding is correct then the idea behind the Good Friday Agreement was to move the Province forward politically by taking away the reasons for conflict thereby removing any perceived reasons for the existence of armed groups, the current impasse is allowing the armed groups to dictate the terms under which the agreement is implemented, surely the idea was take power and influence away from them, not further empower them.

It is vital that the political structure for the future be put in place without delay to ensure that the reasons for conflict are removed by political consensus and that the future of the Province is decided by those democratically elected to make those decisions as representatives of the people.

We have produced a document which will enable the peace process to be moved on and to achieve its stated objectives via the full implementation of the Good Friday Agreement, I would urge you to read this document and understand that there are many British citizens (or  British in the United States)  who wish to see our brothers and sisters in Northern Ireland enjoy the same opportunities and benefits that we derive from a just and peaceful society, the Good Friday Agreement must be implemented without delay for us to avoid being faced with the legacy of another lost opportunity. Let it be your Government, Mr. Blair, that history records as having resolved this long standing conflict.

Yours sincerely,
