EQUIPMENT AND JIGS FOR THE CABLE

To make the wire you will need a few common items and will need to make a little jig.  There is a more advanced way to make the cable that uses another jig and some springs that will yield more uniform cables, but I will leave that for a later update on this page.

  1. A drill with variable speed (you will need to have the drill turn real slow at the beginning.

  2. 2 4ft rods that can support the tension of the wire suspended in the air (I  used some 3/8 steel rods I had sitting around).  You could also use any other method that can secure the wire will keeping the wire separated into 4 sections.  I originally used a wide mouth clamp before using the rods.

  3. A jig that will I will describe how to make.

  4. Extension cord

  5. Cat5 wire.  MUST BE SOLID CORE!!! IT MUST BE TEFLON INSULATED (FEP or TFE)!!! If it isn't solid core, the cable won't hold together. If the cable isn't teflon, the resulting sound won't be worth your time.

The jig is rather simple to make.   Here is my Mickey Mouse version.  Feel free to use your own design.   Cut out a 4.5" x 4.5" piece of 1/4 hardboard or other rigid material.  While keeping 1/2" from the edge, drill a 3/8" hole in each corner.   Sand any rough edges.  If you plan on making the 13awg wire, then you will need to drill another hole in the middle of one of the edges.   Finally, drill a 1/4" hole in the center of the square.  Using washers, locking washers, a 1/4 nut, and a 1/4 x 3 1/2" bolt assemble the jig (see image below).
