I currently live in Bermuda where I am a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at the Bermuda Biological Station for Research (BBSR).  I received my PhD in Ecology from the  University of Georgia's Institute of Ecology before jetting off to this 21-square-mile bastion of the British Empire (more to the point, its 200 or so square miles of coral reefs).

A big chunk of my life and time over the past eight years or so has been dedicated to research on the behavioral ecology of the great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda) and its relatives, and I've assembled quite a bit of information on these predators on some of my web pages. My research has thus far taken me to the Florida Keys, Turks and Caicos Islands, and Papua New Guinea, and continues to excite and challenge me. My current interests and my work at BBSR have me leaning ever more heavily toward research and monitoring work that has direct conservation benefit to coral reefs and other marine habitats, especially in tropical developing nations, and I've been doing a lot of "outreach" activity to that end, including my barracuda and marine natural-history web pages, writing articles for magazines, and on-screen and off-screen involvement in television productions.

On the web pages gathered in semi-random order on this site, I've also got a whole mess of (Southern for "many") links to other things I used to do or enjoy before I became totally obsessed with barracuda and other slime-covered predators (speaking of which, you can click here to find out how to e-mail Congress and give 'em heck about their frequent wars on the environment).

I also have a few bits and pieces about myself and my interests, in the obligatory tradition of ego-driven home pages, so that my future biographers may get the facts straight. You can click here if you want a face (a decade younger, though, than my current visage) to go with the deranged ravings.
