Sahir/Gulzar) gave rise to the idea behind this post. **** Gulzar becomes Ludhianwi !! **** Sahir and Gulzar: Each one a great lyricist in his own right. Yet, both have distinct styles of their own. While Sahir often expressed deep ideas in simple terms, Gulzar was an expert at weaving a complex picture in a beautiful manner. I have a few problems with Gulzar's style. First, he tends to use non-poetic terms such as "bartan" etc. in his lyrics. Second, he tends to make things more complex than necessary. And third, simple ideas are often made to sound profound using self-contradicting lines. These minor complaints have been blown out of proportions in an attempt at humour in the following passages. There are major exaggerations :-) Those who can't tolerate them, please quit now! THE SCENE: Sahir's work has been banned by the Govt. of India due to some political reasons. HMV has approached Gulzar to rewrite some of Sahir's famous songs.
