Believe it or not, the original Petey from the original TV series was a UKC registered American Pit Bull Terrier.
When it came time to shoot the movie they chose to use an American Bulldog!!!
The famous Chance was portrayed on film by two seperate dogs. One was Sure-Grips Rattler and I am not sure about the other,
but both dogs played the role very well!
