(Sorry - true job safety for
employees is just one of my pet
peeves -
During my many years working, I have
been subjected to several different
types of 'safety'. Some was sincere
concern for the employee, some was
just a show to help the company out
on their insurance premiums and some
even for forms of harassment
when the employer became angry at
employees.
One
of the companies was highly praised
for its safety program, but put the
responsibility of safety almost
completely on the backs of the
employees. It presented a very
dangerous situation on a daily
basis! When I approached the Safety
Coordinator regarding the dangers
the employees were faced with having
to deal with, he could only tell me
that fixing the problem was against
company policy. He even showed me
where it was documented in a company
manual. After that initial talk, he
'ducked' every time he saw me coming
his way! The problem was never dealt
with at that plant.
