EVENTS OF THE YEAR 2000

17 January 2000, Master Degree project meeting was held at Bangkok Biomaterial Center to revise in detail on subjects, lecture and title of the course.

24-28 January 2000, Prof. Rudiger von Versen from Germany carried out an IAEA expert mission to deliver lectures in tissue banking for the advance training course to Bangkok Biomaterial Center staff and fellows.

1-3 February 2000, Prof. Yongyudh Vajaradul was invited by IAEA to carry out an expert mission to deliver lectures in tissue banking at Yangon and Mandalay in Myanmar.

2-6 February 2000, Bangkok Biomaterial Center participated in the National Research Council of Thailand exhibition held at Central Plaza Latprao, Bangkok.

26-27 February 2000, Director of Bangkok Biomaterial Center along with Bangkok Biomaterial Center staff and IAEA fellows visited Bangkok Trad Hospital to attend in the cranium bone retransplantation surgery and delivered lecture on tissue banking to surgeons.

1 March 2000, Dr. Pichit Krerkrithwanich from Bangkok Trad Hospital visited Bangkok Biomaterial Center to advise Bangkok Biomaterial Center staff on ISO 9000.

13-17 March 2000, Prof. Norberto Agcaoili, from Philippines carried out an IAEA expert mission at Bangkok Biomaterial Center and delivered lectures on the applications of allografts in orthopaedic surgery to surgeons, fellows and Bangkok Biomaterial Center staff.

27-31 March 2000, Bangkok Biomaterial Center scientific staff, Ms. Thanyawan Aresanasuwan attented the 2nd batch of the Regional Training Course for Delivery of Distance Learning Curriculum to Tissue Bank Operators in Singapore.

29 March 2000, two IAEA fellows, Mr. Mamun and Mr. Sunanda received certificates for completing fellowship of advance training course from Bangkok Biomaterial Center and returned to their countries on 30 March 2000.

31 March 2000, second batch of IAEA fellows started their fellowship of advance training in BBC. They were Mr. Go Bon Thong from Malaysia, Mr. Basril Abbas from Indonesia and Mr. H.P. Jayathilaka from Sri Lanka.

31 March 2000, Dr. Kyaw Myint Naing and Dr. Taik Wan from Myanmar came to Siriraj Hospital to participate in the scientific meeting on Emergency Medical Services and also visited BBC.

31 March 2000, The Bangkok General Hospital sent two pieces of loose bone fragments to BBC for processing and sterilization. These bone fragments were from a German tourist who sustained a motorcycle accident and had an open comminuted fracture.

3-5 April 2000, BBC scientific staff, Mr. Sahachat Makadilog attended the 3rd batch of Regional Training Course for Delivery of Distance Learning Curriculum to Tissue Bank Operators in Singapore.

28 April 2000, Director of BBC with BBC staff visited Dr. Amnart Kulsalanant, Head of Department of Forensic Medicine, Siriraj Hospital to discuss on co-operation with the department for obtaining the consent of next of kin of potential deceased donors.

31 May 2000, BBC submitted a report on its tissue banking project to nation Research Council of Thailand for the contest of ‘The best invention” of Thailand for the year 2001.

19-20 June 2000, 4 Members of BBC staff participated in the ISO 9000 workshop training, conducted by Thai Industrial Standard Institute to implement ISO Standard in BBC.

19-23 June 2000, Dr. Nazly Hilmy from Indonesia carried out an IAEA expert mission at BBC to deliver lectures on tissue banking in the advance training course.

3-7 July 2000, Dr. Abdul Rab Khan from Pakistan carried out an IAEA expert mission at BBC to deliver lectures on tissue banking in the advance training course.

11 and 27 July 2000, Director of BBC was invited by DR. Pairoje Warachit, Hatyai Hospital to demonstrate the application of bone allograft.

19 July 2000, ASEAN Travelling fellows, Dr. V.D. Kumar from Singapore, Dr. Ahmed Djajasgito from Indonesia, Dr. Muhd Borhan Tan from

9-11 December 2000, The Inaugural Disabled Scout Basic Training Course at Udom Business Administration School, Bangkok.. It is the Millennium Scout Queen's Mother 100 years Centenary Project, which has been awarded a grant from H.M. Queen Sylvia of Sweden's by the World Scout Foundation. The disable scouts will be selected to participate at the 20th World Scout Jamboree to be held at Sattahip, Thailand.

EVENTS OF THE YEAR 2001

Classical Knee allograft application surgeries in three consecutive days in Thailand:  on 16th January at Rajwithi Hospital, used femoral condyle for total knee replacement, on 17th at Priest Hospital, used infra patella tendon for eye lid attachement and 18th at Hatyai Hospital used tibial condyle and cancellous chips for total knee replacement.

6-8 April 2001, BBC started the Ambassador of Tissue Donation Project at Thammasart Klong Luang Wittayakom School, Pathumthani. There were 300 boy&girl scouts joined the project. They plan to held a course of tissue donation programme in March 2001 (summer vacation). Next year the scouts will start their activities to campaign for tissue donation.

4-8 June 2001 Prof. Y.  Vajaradul represented the center at the IAEA group meeting workshop on public awareness promotion literature development at Montevideo,Uruguay

19th August 2001,Volunteer Tissue Donation Campaign Project involving Volunteer Buddhist Monk students was commenced. The first meeting of the Monks was held at the center.

27th - 31st August, Dr. R . Mukherjee and Prof. D. G. Anna came to the center as IAEA expert to study and review the curriculum and progress of the Advance Training Course cum Master Degree Program being conducted at the center.

31st August 2001, Prof. Y. Vajaradul along with Dr. Mukherjee and Prof. D. G. Anna and the center's staff had a meeting with Dr. B. Doberstyn, WHO representative to Thailand and discussed about the prospect of extending Tissue Banking Project into the scope and activities of WHO in the region.

21st - 26th September 200, Prof. Y.  Vajaradul was invited to present on "The developments of Biomaterials in Asia- Pacific" and "The experience in managing the Bangkok Biomaterial Center" at the First Indonesian Tissue banking Scientific Meeting Workshop on Biomaterial Clinical Application at Surabaya, Indonesia.

11th October 2001, Ministry of Public Health, Thailand passed the appointment order for the establishment of the National Executive Committee of Tissue Banking, Thailand.

5th - 9th November, The Center was the host of the first combined Seminar cum Workshop meeting on Public and Professional Awareness  in Tissue Banking. The meeting was organized in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, Thai Association of Tissue Banking, Bangkok Biomaterial Center, Office of Atomic Energy for Peace and the Thai Red Cross Society Organ Donation Center.

EVENTS OF THE YEAR 2002

20th January 2002,Prof. Y. Vajaradul and Dr. Sorot participated in a live discussion  on topic "Thai Asssociation of Tissue Banking" on Thai television (channel 9).

31st January - 4th February 2002, The center presented it's work at the exhibition organized by the National Research Council of Thailand at Queen Sirikit National Conference Center, Bangkok.

18th - 20 February 2002, Dr. G. Bagby, senior orthopaedist from Spokane, USA visited the center and delivered a lecture on " The Spinal Surgery using Spinal cage implants".

19th February 2002, Prof. Y. Vajaradul along with Dr. Bagby participated in the meeting of IAEA/RCA planning at the office of Atomic Energy for Peace Thailand.

28th February 2002, Mr. Nguyen Cong Chuy a Vietnamese underwent an operation in Thailand to correct the loosening total hip prosthesis by Prof. Y. Vajaradul.

 7th March 2002,  Prof. Y. Vajaradul presented "16 years of Experience in Tissue Banking" in the 42nd Siriraj Scientific Congress.

11th March 2002, TATB organized a seminar on Bone and Tissue Banking and this course is recognized as Continue Medical Education (CME) Program of the Royal College of Orthopaedic Surgeons of Thailand. TATB also invited Prof. D. Poitout,  an orthopaedist from Marseille, France to present a paper on "Massive Allografts in Bone Tumor Surgery".

1st-5th April 2002,  Prof. Y. Vajaradul participated in the IAEA expert meeting in Singapore to propose the Advance Training Course for Tissue Bank Operators and Homepage Project of Tissue Bank.

11th April, 2002 Prof. Y. Vajaradul delivered a lecture on"Tissue Banking in Thailand" to orthopaedic residents at Royal College of Orthopaedic Surgeon of Thailand.

25th April, 2002, Ministry of Public Health organized the first meeting of the National Executive Committee of Tissue Banking in Thailand.

13th May, 2002, The center coordinated with Police genaral Hospital to set up the tissue recovery center at Police genaral Hospital.

24th May,2002, The center revised the Advance Training Course for Tiusse Bank Operators according to the IAEA.

3rd June 2002,The center cooperated with Rajankul Hospital on a preliminary research on stem cell culture from patients. This stem cell will be impregnated onto bone allograft and transplanted into the same patient.

20th June 2002,  Prof. Y. Vajaradul was invited and Dr. Pairoj Warajit, Hatyai Hospital to operate bone allograft in total hip arthroplasty.

24th June 2002,  Prof. Y. Vajaradul had a meeting with IAEA representative to appraise the RCA project at Office of Atomic Energy for Peace.

25th June 2002,TATB organized the third meeting at the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital to discuss and draft a plan on tissue engineering.

11th July 2002 TATB and the center sponsored bone hydroxyapatite ocular implant to a school girl who suffered a gun shot in her left eye at Ratchburi Hospital.

25th July 2002, Dr. Mannon Aramrat, deputy secretary general, OAEP and Mr. Aleta, RCA coordinator from IAEA visited the center.

28th June 2002 Prof. Y. Vajaradul was invited to demonstrate the transplantation of 3rd metacarpo- phalangeal joint at Police Genenral Hospital,Thailand.

3rd September 2002, TATB coordinated with Ratchaburi Hospital to set up a Tissue Recovery Center in the hospital.

11th September 2002, The National Committee of Tissue Banking held it's second meeting at Ministry at Public Health, Thailand.

21st - 22nd  September The center organized a seminar "The user Surgeons and the Tissue Bank staff" at Baan Phu Waan Pastoral Training Center of Bangkok.

 28th- 30th September 2002,  Prof. Y. Vajaradul attended the 9th Biennial Meeting of Asia- Pacific Association of Surgical Tissue Banks in Korea.

1st October 2002, Mr. Henryk Bursig, Head of the Tissue Bank Dep. Regional Blood Transfusion Center, Katowice, Poland visied the Bangkok Biomaterial center.

14th October 2002, Prof. Y. Vajaradul delivered a lecture on "Tissue Banking" at Public Awareness  Seminar in HO Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

23rd -25th October Prof. Y. Vajaradul presented "17 Years Experience in Tissue Banking"in the EATB meeitn in Bratislava, Slovak.

18th November 2002, Prof. Y. Vajaradul had an audience with H.R.H. Princess Galyani Vadhana Krom Luang Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra to present "The Progress of Tissue Banking" in Thailand.

31st January 2003, The President of Thai Association of Tissue Banking had a meeting with Dr. Salemna, an IAEA expert for the Country Program Framework at Office of Atomic Energy for Peace,Thailand.

28th February 2003, Dr. V Janethaworn and Dr. S. Waiprib from Department of Plastic surgery visited the Bangkok Biomaterial Center and study the tablet processing and amnion transplantation in burn patient project.

8th April,12th and 13th May 2003, Thai Association of Tissue Banking in cooperation with Department of Medical Sciences, Ministry of Public Health had meeting for preparation of the 2nd National Seminar on Tissue Banking in Thailand.

29th April 2003,The Center received the bones and tissue from Ratchburi Hospital recovery center.

1st may 2003, The Bangkok Biomaterial Center presented its work in the exhibition of donation campaign to dedicate merit donor event at Police General Hospital.

16th May 2003,  Prof. Yongyudh did a presentation on Bone and Tissue Bank in Health Station TV, a program on Thai TV channel ( ITV).

27th May 2003, The Thai Association of Tissue Banking in cooperation with Department of Medical Sciences, Ministry of Public Health organized the 2nd National Seminar on Tissue Banking in Thailand.

16th June 2003, A visit to the department of medical Science was made to discuss in framework of Thai Association of Tissue Banking.

10th July  2003, Meeting was conducted on the progress of Tissue Banking in Thailand at Department of Medical Sciences.

1st September 2003, Prof. Yongyudh had a meeting with Department of Medical Sciences to prepare the 2nd International Seminar in Tissue Banking.

17th September 2003, Prof. Yongyudh participated in WHO meeting at Miracle Grand Hotel, Bangkok.

6th - 9th October 2003, Prof. Yongyudh was invited as temporary advisor of WHO meeitng in framework of rule and regulation safety for bone and tissue transplantation at Madrid, Spain.

24th- 28th November 2003, Thai Association of Tissue Banking and the Bangkok Biomaterial Center in cooperation with Department of Medical Sciences held the 2nd International PPA (Public and Professional Awareness) workshop and seminar in Tissue Banking at the Ministry of Public Health, Thailand.
