This tower(on the left) replaced the original Cape Henry Lighthouse (on the right) that was built in 1792.
The old tower developed a series of large cracks,
so this new tower is made completely of iron.
It stands 156 feet tall, and is situated with a first-order Frensel lens,
making it capable of taking over the job of marking the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay.
This picture was taken from the top of Old Cape Henry Light.
The little cream tower in the background is a US Coast Guard Station
that monitors the busy shipping lanes of the Chesapeake.
Unfortunately, this tower is not open to the public.
Directions: Located at the Northern tip of Virginia Beach on US-60.
This is an active military post,
but the guard will allow you onto the base.

This is a great place to eat.
Family owned and operated for over thirty years,
The Lighthouse Restaurant is a Virginia Beach landmark.
The Lighthouse seats 550 people on Rudee Inlet
at the Oceanfront on 1st Street and Atlantic Avenue on the
newly expanded boardwalk.
Every seat has a waterfront view.
