m.1845 Delila ROSS (b.ca1826).
He was born in OH and she in IN. Delila
was living with her children and Mary HANES,
who appears to be her mother, in Livingston Co. IL near Daniel’s parents in
1850. Daniel is listed with his
parents, a fact which lends some uncertainty to Daniel and Delila’s
relationship. Since many in the
family died of cholera that year, Daniel may have been living away from his wife
and children to protect them from the disease.
Daniel and his parents are also listed on the 1850 census mortality
schedule, indicating that they died of cholera within the prior year.
His listing indicates that he died in Sep, presumably 1849, but if the
census was taken late, he may have died in Sep 1850 (or the census taker listed
him erroneously in the main census). In
1860, the children were still living with Mary HANES
in Livingston Co., however, Delila is missing, indicating that she may have also
died during the preceeding decade.

four named. In 1860 Uriah and his
family are still in Lancaster Twp. Uriah
was a cooper by trade, having tried his hand at farming unsuccessfully.
The Wells Co. history says that Uriah died in 1867, and there is a stone
for a Uriah Blue, d. 19 Oct 1867, in a cemetery near Murray IN.
Uriah's death is mentioned in the Bluffton Banner, 24 Oct 1867, and there
is a record of the purchase of his coffin from McBride Funeral Home in the Wells
County Library in Bluffton. There
are no probate records for either Uriah or Rachel in Wells Co.
In 1870, another Uriah BLUE

"common laborer". In the
same census, there is an Ernest W. BLUE (age

Union Twp. of Champaign Co. OH, which provides a possible connection of this
family to those of Champaign Co. (note Samuel and John O. KUNKEL, below). This

Ruth received land in 1851 in Troy, Miami Co. OH from her parents, who
had received it in 1851 from Thomas G. BARNS.
The History of Warren Co. IA tells us more about this family.
Early in life, Thomas learned the trade of carpentering and cabinet
making, but later followed “general agricultural pursuits”.
In 1851 they moved to IA, settling first in Clayton Co. Then in 1856 they planned to move to KS, but stopped in
Warren Co. IA to visit his brother, William.
They apparently liked the area, for they then bought a farm in Warren Co.
After the Civil War he entered the grocery business, and resided in
Indoanola until his death. He
belonged to the Episcopal Church and was a Mason.
Ruth was a Baptist. They
both died at Indianola.

that a daughter married a GROVENER.
