KEITH NEWS

2010

December 30, 2010

Thanks to all the Keith Richards and Rolling Stones fans around the world who have continued to support the Keith Shrine website over these past 14 years. The year 2011 will be The Keith Shrine's 15th Anniversary as a website dedicated to the Human Riff.

Even though we haven't been able to see a live Stones show since 2007, at least we got "Life"! We also got Vintage Vinos, Wingless Angels I & II and a special Wingless Angels boxed set. I can tell you first hand that all these cds and items are fabulous (thanks to my own Wingless Angel), so order yours today via Keith's Official Webstore!

In recent interviews Keith has said that the Stones may tour in the Summer or Fall 2011, but he's also said he is waiting to get the word from Mick that things are a go. As with any Stones tour, it's not official until it's announced. Charlie recently said the Stones won't tour, Ronnie says they will. So rather than relying on rumors, I like to wait until something is confirmed and as soon as it is official I will post it here.

To keep updated on a regular basis, please join us at The Keith Shrine on Facebook! We hosted a very successful Keith Richards' Birthday Party there a few weeks ago with 1000's of fans from around the globe joining in the fun and baking shepherd's pie.

Best Wishes to all for a happy, healthy and rocking 2011!

One Love, Blue Lena xx

Four years ago tonight I got to meet Keith Richards privately in Las Vegas backstage in the Wardrobe room before the show. I can't believe it was four years ago already 11-11-06, seems like just last year. It will always remain a highlight of my life. You can read the story HERE.

Keith's talk at the NYPL went well and many fans were thrilled to be in attendance for this rare intimate treat. If you search You Tube you can maybe find some snippets of video/audio if it hasn't been removed.

On November 3, Keith appeared at Waterstone's in London for a book signing. The first 150 or so got to meet Keith and get a hand signed copy of the book. Click here for VIDEO and this link has a PHOTO SET.

Keith also appears in a story inside the December issue of the UK Magazine UNCUT, which uses a photo of Keith in his library taken by Christopher Simon Sykes (on the front of my web page). The magazine saw the photo on my web page and asked who the photographer was and how to find it and since I helped out they gave me credit in the back of the magazine-cool.

Thanks to the generosity of another Stones friend I was lucky enough to be given my own signed copy of "Life", as well as Wingless Angels I & II and the new Vintage Vinos cd. Thanks for that!

Waterstone's Piccadilly signing in London:

Keith Richards will visit Waterstone’s flagship branch in London’s Piccadilly in the UK from 5pm on Wednesday 3rd November to sign copies of his autobiography, Life.

Rolling Stone Magazine's new issue features Keith on the cover and an exclusive look at his autobiography due out on my birthday (how fitting) October 26th. The media is already having fun with various tidbits that have been released such as Keith calling Mick "unbearable" and saying he has a "tiny todger" or in other words, a small dick. Keith is still set to speak October 29th at the main branch of the NYC Public Library, times and ticket details are still sketchy, however, tickets are said to cost $60 and will include the book. Keith is also set to appear in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides due out May 2011. Keith and Johnny Depp have been seen together in London. And, speaking of Depp, he narrates the audio version of Keith's autobiography, how about that?

Keith also now has an Official Facebook Page as well, so you can un-friend all those fake sites you've been visiting the past few years.

In other news, rumors abound of a 2011-12 Rolling Stones Tour, but nothing has been officially announced yet. Stay tuned to the Keith Shrine on Facebook for more frequent news updates.

May 14, 2010

Sorry for the lack of updates, if you are on Facebook please join The Keith Shrine on Facebook for more frequent weekly news updates. But, here's the latest if you've been under a rock when it comes to Keith news. Exile on Main Street is set to be re-released on May 18 and the new (old) single "Plundered My Soul" is already getting great airplay on a lot of US radio stations. The Stones official website has been re-designed and the band themselves (minus Ronnie) have been heavily into promoting the re-release. Check the official website for all the latest merchandise associated with Exile, ranging from affordable up to $2,500. Also be prepared to see Stones related merchandise hit store like Target, H&M, Zara and Bloomingdales in the near future.

The Stones are currently in NYC to promote Exile via Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and in case you didn't hear Keith made a surprise guest appearance on his show last night. Mick, Keith and Charlie were also on the show via satellite on Wednesday night. You can catch entire shows and clips of all the Stones related content at this LINK. The premiere of the new documentary "Stones in Exile" was held in NYC by invite only on Tuesday night and is set to be premiered on Jimmy Fallon at 12:35am this evening/Sat.morning, so set your recorders. The dvd "Stones in Exile" will be released June 22 and "Ladies & Gentlemen" is slated for a long awaited October release on Blu-Ray dvd.

Keith also stated that he is ready to do a new album/tour and is waiting for Mick to sign on. Bets are that things also hinge on Ronnie. Keith's autobiography called "Life" is set to be released on October 26, which coincidentally is my birthday (thanks for the gift Keith!). Keith has also contacted his former Winos band members and although nothing is firm, this is good news if a Stones tour is not on the immediate forefront.

Keith is also on the cover of Guitar World and the Rolling Stone Magazine have dual collectible covers with month, one of Mick and one of Keith.

Johnny Depp To Direct A Documentary On Rolling Stones Guitarist And Jack Sparrow Inspiration Keith Richards

Johnny Depp tried his hand at directing once. In 1997, he wrote, starred in and helmed a movie called "The Brave," which also turned out to be one of the final screen performances for the legendary actor, Marlon Brando. It wasn't very good by most accounts and it never saw any kind of theatrical release in the United States.

Depp shifted back to acting again, and proceeded to star in a string of features that propelled him to superstardom, starting with the deft adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson's "Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas" in 1997 and culminating, of course, with "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" in 2003. He's been flying high ever since, but he's not stepped back behind the camera since "The Brave." Until now.

Depp, by his own admission, is preparing to direct again. He's abandoning fiction in favor of fact, with plans for a documentary focused on Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards. "Pirates" super-fans should see the connection; Richard was famously cited as Depp's inspiration for the iconic pirate Jack Sparrow. And for anyone who doubts that, the proof is right there on the screen.

There's been no public discussion of how Depp plans to approach his subject, whether this will be a career-spanning look at the guitarist or something more focused. As Depp told a European outlet (via The Playlist):

"Now that I'm wiser, and that enough time has passed, I can experience directing again. Already next week I'll start working on a Keith Richards documentary. While I'm in Drvengrad, my editor is already working on kilometers of archive footage and footage of his concerts. I'm very touched that Keith agreed to show up in front of my cameras."

Great to hear that Richards intends to participate. We'll be watching this one closely.

Keith Reportedly Gives Up Alcohol

The 66-year-old finally quit after getting strict orders from his doctor and watching fellow Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood's life unravel through alcoholism, it has been reported. Richards has apparently not touched a drop in four months.

Doctors have been telling Richards to stop drinking for years. He once famously claimed that he would never stop because he had outlived several doctors who advised him to give up.

But four years ago he suffered a brain haemorrhage after falling out of a palm tree during an alcohol-fuelled trip to Fiji with Wood. And he has been told that his hedonistic lifestyle is finally taking its toll.

A source close to the guitarist told The Sun: "He has always quite enjoyed the fact that he seemed to be able to carry on drinking as much as he liked with no real negative impact on his health.

"But he has watched Ronnie fall well and truly off the wagon last year and he doesn't like what he sees. Plus he has started to feel for the first time like it might do him some good to give up the booze for a while."
