On Saturday, September 18, the Optimist Coastal Bend Chess Federation (OCBCF) held its first ever “Girls Only” Tournament. Each girl played 5 games in a format where each person had 30 minutes to play all their moves. Players from Alice, Corpus Christi, Gregory-Portland and Kingsville participated in this non-rated tournament directed by Lucy James.
Overall winner of the tournament was Edna Ramos of H.M. King High School in Kingsville. Second place overall in the tournament was a tie between Stacie Fisher of Gregory-Portland High School in Portland and Elizabeth James of Tom Browne Middle School in Corpus Christi. Gift certificates from Café Calypso were awarded to Nichelle Reopelle, Elizabeth James and Crystal Saenz. Class winners were:

tournament will be open to all students in grades K-12.
