Gerry Collins has resigned as manager of Glenafton Athletic with immediate effect.

The club would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his service over the last few seasons and for bringing further honours to the club in the form of the Rockware Ayrshire League Cup and the Whyte & Mackay West of Scotland Cup. Gerry has had to operate under particularly difficult circumstances this season with little or no transfer budget and an unprecedented number of injuries which has depleted the playing squad. In recent weeks, this club like a number of others has been faced with a severely congested and ill thought out fixture list, which a full time club, let alone a part-time club would have struggled to cope with.

On a personal note I have found Gerry to be one of the most open, honest and committed people that I have encountered in my time in Junior football. He conducted his resignation in a dignified and exemplary fashion. In his own words he sincerely hopes that someone can lift the players for the remaining matches. Can I also add that contrary to some unfounded reports, Gerry had, and has, the respect of the playing staff and indeed they tried to persuade to him to reconsider his position and stay with the club.

Andy Dunlop and Davy Kennedy will take charge of the team for the forthcoming match. The club will take stock and announce a new management structure in due course.

John Timpany,

Glenafton Athletic

The Pride of dear New Cumnock
