A season which promised so much ended in disappointment for the Glens. A great run in the Scottish Junior Cup saw the Glens drawn at home to Kilsyth Rangers in the 5th Round at Connel Park, on 27th January 1957. A double from Roy Thorburn earned the Glens a replay but Kilsyth ran out 3-1 winners at Duncansfield, and the wee 'Gers went on to the final where they lost out narrowly to Banks O' Dee.
The Glens were still very much in the hunt for the Western South Division title but lost out 2-1 to nearest challengers Talbot at Beechwood, and could only take 2 points from their last 4 games allowing the Talbot to win the title by 5 points - which would prove to be Talbot's last honour for 20 years. This also proved to be the last season in the Junior ranks for Ayr Newton Rovers.
Leading goalscorer Danny McCulloch was capped for Scotland Juniors and scored in the 3-1 victory over Wales at Tynecastle. Danny also played in the 3-1 defeat of Republic of Ireland at
Tolka Park on Friday 25th March, where the team was -
Scotland Juniors: Thomson (Perthshire), McFarlane (Petershill), Mochan (Kilsyth Rangers), Warrneder (Banks O' Dee), Gwynne (Larkhall Thistle), Higgins (Newtongrange), Ewan (Banks O'Dee), Colrain and Gillespie (Duntocher Hibs), McCulloch (Glenafton Athletic), Ormond Bo'ness United.
Danny stepped up to the Senior ranks at the end of the season and signed for Falkirk.
