RENFREW vs
GLENAFTON ATHLETIC

New signing striker Andy Ferguson made his competitive debut for the club and partnered Gareth Armstrong upfront. However, it was to be the visitors' veteran striker  Stevie Dallas who carved out the first opening after 6 minutes only to find the side netting from a narrow angle. Five minutes later a Jose Quitongo was picked out in the box but his well guided header was comfortably covered by keeper Stefan Gonet. The keeper had to be on his toes on 20 minutes when Gareth Armstrong flashed  header goalward from 12 yards out and then at full stretch on 25 minutes to tip another Armstrong effort on to the crossbar. Within 60 seconds Bo had a third bite at the cherry but after some fine acrobatics to get his outstretched boot to make contact with the ball, it lacked the good grace to find the target. Battling against a strong wind the Bankies had failed to exert any sustained pressure on the Glens' goal but 10 minutes before the break Dallas went down in the box claiming for a spot kick from the well positioned official, who was having none of it. More significantly, a minute later Chris Merrilees for a trip at the edge of the box and was yellow-carded. The yellow-clad Dallas was fortunate not to receive the same punishment for attempting to take matters into his own hands. HT Glens 0 Bankies 0 The home side nearly caught the visitors napping form the re-start but Armstrong had to settle for a corner-kick and minutes later Ferguson almost capitalised on a misunderstanding between Gonet and his full-back, but the defender redeemed himself and the danger averted. On 52 minutes danger at the other end also appeared to have had been averted as the Bankies forward retreated with the ball from the Glens goalmouth, only for the official to adjudge that Merrilees had tripped him in  the process and a second yellow card was duly  administered. On the hour mark an excellent piece of skill down the right saw the Bankies weave into the Glens box and the ball delivered to back post, for Dallas to head home, but the fluttering flag of the stand-side linesman had already waved away the anguish from the faces of the home defence and support alike. The 10 men rallied and substitute Simon Eeles' pace was a great advert for that old adage - attack is the best form of defence as time and again he took the ball deep into the visitor's territory, providing the weakened defence with much needed respite. With 10 minutes to go Eeles came close to unpicking the deadlock as he glided past the yellow jerseys on his own Tour de Loch Park and burst into the box, but his low shot at goal was smothered well by Gonet at the second attempt. With 10 seconds to go the tireless Jamie MacDonald rose to clear a Bankie's corner, but he let his hand rule his head -a penalty the outcome. Not to worry the next hand in the air was that of Dougie Ramsay as he punched the icy blast with delight after Ally Semple pushed Gary Lynn's  spot-kick round the post. More drama to follow when deep into added on time Chris Mackie was poked the ball home, but from an offside position on the goal-line . Glens 0 Bankies 0
