As Jon said, Slippery was "make or break" time. Two tours were booked at the same time, one optimistic one (big venues) and one pessimistic one (small venues). To say Bon Jovi hit the big time, fast lane in 1986, after the release of Slippery When Wet would be something of an understatement. This albums smells of hits, number ones, lyrics and rifts you can not get out of your head.

Desmond Child was brought in to help with the writing of the album. No-one is quite sure how much input he had, but lets say it was worth it. In 1986 SWW was the best selling Album of the year. By 1997 it has sold 18 Million copies. Many of the songs are still performed live, as a concert without them would be criminal. Hits such as Livin' On A Prayer (15 weeks a #1 on DialMTV before the station retired it, not allowing it to be voted for after that. Their most popular song EVER), Wanted Dead Or Alive, You Give Love A Bad Name and Wild In The Streets are timeless Bon Jovi classics, combined with Let It Rock, Raise Your Hands, Social Disease (performed live twice ever as far as I'm aware). If you do not own this album, go buy it NOW, you will not regret it.

The original cover, a well endowed woman in a tight fitting top in a shower, was banned (it is available on import from Japan). Whilst looking for inspiration Jon grabbed a black carrier bag, sank it in water, pulled it out and wrote Slippery When Wet on the side. Hence the final cover.

The out-takes are often released on CD singles. Borderline was released in Japan as a single of it's own, Edge Of A Broken Heart is included on a Always single. The other four tracks are available on various bootleg CD's, the best of which is Hidden Treasures.
