Testimony Of A Believer

IF ONLY

Two little words that mean so much, if only: if only I had went home, if only I would have listen, if only I had not been here. These are just sample of the; if only in our lives. You have them and I have them. As Christians we hear a lot of the, if only of the world, we hear it from children in the form of wants if only I had that. We also hear it as wants from adults, if only I had the money or if only I had that car or truck, if only I had a new four wheeler. You get the picture. God calls that coveting and that is a sin. It is only human nature to want the things of this world, but it is Christ like to be happy with what we have.
As Christians we need to get past the; if only and concentrate on the, I AM. If we keep our eyes on God there will not be any need for if only. You know I never realized how often we hear someone use the words if only. I will would be a better choice; I will do better at work, I will be at Church on Sunday, I will be more patient, I will do as you ask--- Etc. Jesus never would have used if only, God will not use if only.
There will come a time when if only want be accepted or excused. When we stand before God, if only will not save us. I was at the nursing home Sunday afternoon when a woman of seventy three got my attention. She ask me if I would pray for her. She told me that she was a rebellious person when it comes to her relationship with God. She wants to get closer to God because she was told by doctors that she had intestinal trouble; that they could not operate because she was not strong enough. They gave her only a few months to live. I consented and while we were praying she said “lord if only I had not been so hard headed if only I would have had this operation three years ago when the problem was first found. She confided in me that several years earlier when she was sick that the Lord led her to a specialist that told her she needed the surgery, but she had other thing to do and never went to the hospital. I know a lot of Christians that are just like this woman, they mean well but they are not as close to God as they should be. They go to the specialist, GOD but then never follow through with what God gives them. Many times it is because they use if only with God instead of I will.

I hope that you are not one to stand before God and say if only you had given me more.
God gave plenty when he gave his son.
