The Finer Family

Births 1890 - 1910

The records of birth, marriage and death are from the British General Records Office, or GRO. These were instituted beginning in 1837. Prior records were kept by the parish church and submitted to the bishop's office. The GRO index records the year, quarter, district, volume, page, and after 1864, the age at death. Based on these identifiers, a copy of the certificate can be ordered by mail.

I have uploaded this information, up to 1899, to the FreeBMD database, a project run by volunteers worldwide. Using their search engine, you can retrieve the volume and page numbers. To order facimilies of the original forms, which include parents names, addresses and occupations, download the relevant birth, marriage and death certificates form from the UK Statistics site.

Except where noted by ( CERT ), which indicates that a family member has ordered a copy of the certificate, all entries in the Notes column are my own, Speculative notes are surrounded by " [ Poss. ... ] ". "[ died .... ] is used for individuals who died in childhood. Families identified in the 1881 census as immigrants from other countries eg. [ Lazarus & Esther ( Russia )]. The presence of an asterisk ( * ) after a name indicates that entry has not been uploaded to FreeBMD, because of missing information or if the date is after 1899.
