ROBINSON

A wonderful genealogy researcher...Thank you "cousin Max"...

Introduction and Scope
Who were these Robinsons of Kings County, Nova Scotia?

In searching the early records it soon became apparent that there were several Robinson genealogical lines in Kings County. Additionally, it was not readily apparent if there were any unifying threads connecting any of the Robinson branches. If such a connection exists, it will have to await a future time.

For the present, we will consider JOHN R. ROBINSON (born 1799) as our earliest documented Robinson ancestor. The prime focus of this study will focus on his grandson, CHARLES H. EDWARD ROBINSON and his wife, ELIZA ANN SHAFFER and their descendants.

The ancestoral lines for these Robinsons include many of the prominent early settlers in Nova Scotia. Thus we find blood relationships with the immigrants from New England, the Planters, who arrived following the expulsion of the French Acadians in 1755. And the United Empire Loyalists, who came following the Revolutionary War. These family names include Dunham, Calkin, Chase, Porter, and Miller. The Shaffer line from the Lunenburg area connects back to early Harris and Croft settlers there. Charts with selected and pertinent portions of these family trees are included here.

We, their descendants, have lost even the memories of their names and where they came from. Most were ordinary folk, such as we, but they be special to us. And the purpose of this account is to see that they have not been forgotten.
