Obituary for Theophilus's father Theophilus Abbott in PEI.

OBITUARY for Theophilus Abbott, Sr - PEI

At his home Princetown Road on November 2nd, 1904, Theophilus Abbott, aged 69 years, departed this life. Because of his many excellent qualities our deceased brother's removal by death has caused a vacancy in the community that will be most difficult to fill. The very high esteem in which he was held was strongly in evidence by the very large number present at his funeral services at the house and the grave were conducted by Rev L. Frizzle, W.W. Lodge, and Vm Harrison. Our departed brother was naturally religiously inclined being born of deeply pious parents, his father being a very acceptable local preacher for many years. Almost a half a century ago, during a series of special services held in the house of Thomas Ayers at Union Road, Queens County, PEI by Revs. Smith and Milligan, he professed conversion. Since the confession of his faith in Christ he has been a consistent member of the Methodist Church. Nowhere, outside of his own home will he be more missed than in the services of the church. As a layman he had very acceptably filled all the offices of the church in the circuit where he resided. His clear understanding of and familiarity with The Holy Scriptures made him a most valuable Sabbath School teacher and prayer leader. His home was always open to ministers of all denominations. One of his greatest delights was the discussion of Christian topics. Early in life he was united in wedlock with Miss Alice Balderson of North Wiltshire, PEI who passed to her eternal reward after a married life of ten years. Later he was married to Miss Mary Jane Howard of Cornwall, PEI. His family numbered fifteen, thirteen of whom, and also a beloved wife, survive him to mourn the loss of a most tender-hearted and affectionate father and husband. May they all be graciously sustained by the abundant grace of God.
